The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) presents his compliments
to Member States and has the honour to announce the appointment of Dr Michael Ryan as
Deputy Director-General of WHO as of 1 April 2024.
Dr Ryan is from the Republic of Ireland and is the Executive Director of WHO Health
Emergencies, Preparedness and Response. He leads and coordinates WHO’s preparedness and
response to health emergencies (e.g., disease outbreaks, humanitarian crises, natural/man-made
disasters, and other public health emergencies).
Dr Ryan completed his medical training in the Republic of Ireland in 1988 and his
post-graduate training in the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and
Northern Ireland, and the European Union.
He joined WHO in 1996 and has served on the frontlines of health emergency
preparedness and response in multiple countries and regions, as well as with the Emerging
Diseases Programme, the Expanded Programme on Immunization, and most recently with the
Global Polio Eradication Initiative from 2013–2017, based in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean
Region. He returned to WHO headquarters in 2017 as Deputy Executive Director.
Dr Ryan will assume the role of Deputy Director-General in addition to that of Executive
Director and will represent the Director-General internally and externally on all matters
delegated to him. His experience in managing complex health programmes at scientific,
technical, operational, strategy, policy and diplomatic levels will be invaluable.
The Director-General of the World Health Organization avails himself of this opportunity
to renew to Member States the assurances of his highest consideration.

博士自 2024 年 4 月 1 日起担任世卫组织副总干事。

Le Directeur général de l’Organisation mondiale de la Santé (OMS) présente ses compliments aux États Membres et a l’honneur d’annoncer la nomination du Dr Michael Ryan au poste de Directeur général adjoint de l’OMS à compter du 1er avril 2024.
De nationalité irlandaise, le Dr Ryan est Directeur exécutif de la Division de l’OMS Préparation et riposte aux urgences sanitaires. Il dirige et coordonne les travaux de l’OMS dans le domaine de la préparation et de la riposte aux urgences sanitaires (flambées épidémiques, crises humanitaires, catastrophes naturelles ou causées par l’être humain, et autres urgences de santé publique).
Le Dr Ryan a obtenu son doctorat de médecine en République d’Irlande en 1988 et a suivi une formation postuniversitaire en République d’Irlande, au Royaume-Uni de Grande-Bretagne et d’Irlande du Nord et dans l’Union européenne.
Il est entré à l’OMS en 1996 et a travaillé aux avant-postes de la préparation et de la riposte aux urgences sanitaires dans de nombreux pays et régions, ainsi que pour le Programme de surveillance des maladies émergentes, le Programme élargi de vaccination et, de 2013 à 2017, au sein de l’Initiative mondiale pour l’éradication de la poliomyélite, étant alors basé dans la Région OMS de la Méditerranée orientale. Il a réintégré le Siège de l’OMS en 2017 en qualité de Directeur exécutif adjoint.
Le Dr Ryan exercera les fonctions de Directeur général adjoint en plus de celles de Directeur exécutif et représentera le Directeur général à l’intérieur comme à l’extérieur de l’OMS pour toutes les questions qui lui sont déléguées. Son expérience en matière de gestion de programmes de santé complexes au niveau scientifique, technique, opérationnel et stratégique et sur le plan de la politique générale et de la diplomatie sera extrêmement précieuse.
Le Directeur général de l’Organisation mondiale de la Santé saisit cette occasion pour renouveler aux États Membres les assurances de sa très haute considération.

Д-р Райан является гражданином Республики Ирландия, занимает должность Исполнительного директора ВОЗ по чрезвычайным ситуациям в области здравоохранения, обеспечению готовности и принятию мер реагирования. Он возглавляет и координирует работу ВОЗ по обеспечению готовности и принятию мер реагирования на чрезвычайные ситуации в области здравоохранения (например, вспышки заболеваний, гуманитарные кризисы, стихийные/антропогенные бедствия и другие чрезвычайные ситуации в области общественного здравоохранения).
Д-р Райан закончил медицинское образование в Республике Ирландия в 1988 г., прошел обучение по программам магистратуры в Республике Ирландия, Соединенном Королевстве Великобритании и Северной Ирландии и Европейском союзе.
Д-р Райан поступил на работу в ВОЗ в 1996 г., был на переднем крае деятельности по обеспечению готовности и принятию мер реагирования на чрезвычайные ситуации в области здравоохранения во многих странах и регионах, а также работал в Программе по борьбе с новыми заболеваниями, в Расширенной программе иммунизации и совсем недавно, в 2013-2017 гг., в Глобальной инициативе по ликвидации полиомиелита, базирующейся в Регионе ВОЗ Восточного Средиземноморья. Вернулся на работу в штаб-квартиру ВОЗ в 2017 г. в качестве заместителя Исполнительного директора.
Д-р Райан будет выполнять обязанности заместителя Генерального директора в дополнение к его обязанностям Исполнительного директора, а также будет представлять Генерального директора внутри и вне Организации по всем делегированным ему вопросам. Его опыт управления комплексными программами здравоохранения на научном, техническом, оперативном, стратегическом, политическом и дипломатическом уровнях будет неоценим.
Генеральный директор Всемирной организации здравоохранения пользуется настоящей возможностью, чтобы вновь заверить государства-члены в своем глубоком уважении.

a los Estados Miembros y tiene el honor de anunciar el nombramiento del Dr. Michael Ryan como Director General Adjunto de la OMS a partir del 1 de abril de 2024.
El Dr. Ryan procede de la República de Irlanda y es el Director Ejecutivo del Programa de Emergencias Sanitarias de la OMS. Dirige y coordina la preparación y respuesta de la OMS frente a emergencias sanitarias (como brotes de enfermedades, crisis humanitarias, desastres naturales o provocados por el ser humano y otras emergencias de salud pública).
El Dr. Ryan completó su formación médica en la República de Irlanda en 1988 y su formación de posgrado en la República de Irlanda, el Reino Unido de Gran Bretaña e Irlanda del Norte y la Unión Europea.
Se incorporó a la OMS en 1996 y ha trabajado en la primera línea de la preparación y respuesta frente a emergencias sanitarias en múltiples países y regiones, así como junto con el Programa para las Enfermedades Emergentes, el Programa Ampliado de Inmunización y, más recientemente, la Iniciativa de Erradicación Mundial de la Poliomielitis, cuya sede se encuentra en la Región del Mediterráneo Oriental de la OMS, entre 2013 y 2017.
