Dear Directors-General,
Dear Colleagues,
The European Commission is pleased to invite you to the 9th edition of the European
Civil Protection Forum.
To participate, please register at European Civil Protection Forum 2026 before 15
September 2026.
Since its first edition in 2003, the Forum has evolved into a significant European
assembly for professionals and decision-makers engaged in civil protection. It serves as
an essential platform for knowledge exchange, discussion, and collaboration among
stakeholders involved in European civil protection policy, operations and research.
Building on the foundations laid by the 2024 edition — which emphasised knowledge
exchange, innovation and cross-sectoral cooperation — the 2026 Forum will provide an
opportunity for stakeholders from across the disaster risk management community to take
stock of progress, explore the implications of the Preparedness Union Strategy in
2
enlarging the narrow understanding of civil protection, and jointly shape the next phase
of European civil protection.
Highlights of the 2026 edition:
• Theme: Preparing today, ready for tomorrow
• Key Objectives: Reflecting on progress made in building a Preparedness Union
and embedding preparedness by design across EU and national legislation,
policies and programmes; providing a space for knowledge exchange and
innovation among UCPM stakeholders, to inspire future developments of the
Union Civil Protection Mechanism.
• Civil Protection Village: A central feature of the Forum, it will showcase
innovative solutions, good practices and projects in disaster risk management. It
will be an interactive space offering ample opportunities for professional
networking with peers from across Europe.
This year the event will be held in-person, with only a few selected sessions being web-
streamed. For the latest updates and detailed information, including the agenda of the
event, please visit our official event page.
For any queries regarding the event, please do not hesitate to contact us at ECHO-
[email protected]. For any queries regarding the registration process, please do
not hesitate to contact [email protected].
I would be grateful if you could circulate this information within your organisation and to
all potentially interested stakeholders.
We look forward to welcoming you to what promises to be an enriching and pivotal
event in the field of civil protection and disaster risk management.
