Subject: End of my mandate at the Authority for
European Political Parties and European Political Foundations
Dear colleagues,
As the end of my five-year mandate at the Authority for European Political Parties and European Political Foundations approaches, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the excellent cooperation we were able to develop together over the years. I am thankful for the many excellent exchanges and personal acquaintances made at the occasion of our annual conferences in Brussels. However diverse our institutional systems at national and Union level may be, I always felt that we were able to build a common understanding of the challenges for democracy and to conduct highly useful best practice exchanges on political parties supervision and transparency. I am therefore convinced that the forum composed of competent national authorities, Authority, and financial services of the European Parliament is bound to continue playing an essential role in the protection of European democratic integrity and strengthening of its resilience.
On an administrative note, please be informed also that the necessary measures have been taken to ensure uninterrupted functioning of the Authority and a smooth transition into the mandate of my successor, Mr Philippe Musquar, who was appointed by joint decision of the European Parliament, Council of the European Union and European Commission with effect from 1 September 2026. I trust that the information exchange between the Authority and the Member States via the national contact points, as laid down in the Regulation on statute and funding of European political parties and European political foundations, will continue to operate seamlessly from tomorrow onward.
