INTERNATIONAL LABOUR OFFICE
NOTE VERBALE
Ref.: ILO/RELOFF/08-09-2026/28
Public interactive event with the candidates to the post of Director-General of the ILO (23 September 2026)
The International Labour Office presents its compliments to the governments and Permanent Missions of Member States of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and of observer States, and has the honour to announce that the candidates to the post of Director-General of the ILO will participate in a public interactive event with ILO constituents on 23 September 2026. The event will consist of a brief presentation of the candidate’s vision for the Organization, followed by 16 questions from the tripartite constituents: four from each of the Employers’ and Workers’ groups, and eight from the Government group (comprising two from each of the four ILO geographical regions, namely Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific – including the Arab States – and Europe).
The schedule of the event along with other relevant information, including the candidates’ vision statements and curriculum vitae, are available on the webpage dedicated to the election of the Director-General, entitled Appointment of the Director-General of the ILO. The public interactive event will be broadcast on ILO Live in the seven ILO working languages. No registration is accordingly required to follow the public interactive event.
Details concerning the distribution of questions to the candidates between the three constituent groups and between the four geographical regions of the Government group have been communicated to the Secretariats of the Employers’ and Workers’ groups, and to the Officers of the Government group and the Regional Coordinators. Constituents interested in putting questions to the candidates are accordingly invited to contact the relevant group secretariat or Regional Coordinator.
The arrangements for the private hearings of the candidates and the election of the Director-General in private sitting scheduled to be held during the 358th Session of the Governing Body of the ILO in November 2026 will be finalized following the public interactive event of 23 September.
The International Labour Office avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the governments and Permanent Missions of Member States of the ILO and observer States the assurances of its highest consideration.
