Join the EHP Partnership for Health Sector Climate Action for an interactive deep dive into extreme heat. Drawing on recent international discussions and experiences from across the Region, the event will explore how countries, cities and institutions are responding to growing heat-related health risks. Through expert insights and interactive exchanges, participants will learn practical approaches to heat preparedness, adaptation and health protection

Join the EHP Partnership for Health Sector Climate Action for an interactive deep dive into extreme heat. Drawing on recent international discussions and experiences from across the WHO European Region, the event will explore how countries, cities and institutions are responding to growing heat-related health risks. Through expert insights and interactive exchanges, participants will learn practical approaches to preparedness, adaptation and health protection. The event is particularly relevant for policymakers, public health professionals, climate adaptation practitioners, emergency preparedness experts, meteorological services, local authorities and researchers.

Recent summers have demonstrated the growing toll of extreme heat on health and well-being across the WHO European Region. The 2026 heatwaves have affected large parts of the Region, placing pressure on health services, disrupting daily life and underscoring the need for stronger protection measures. This EHP Partnership for Health Sector Climate Action deep dive will explore how countries, regions and cities are responding and translating experience into action.
Drawing on WHO guidance and practical examples from across Europe, speakers will showcase approaches to heat-health action planning, the identification and protection of populations at greater risk, collaboration between health, meteorological and local authorities, community engagement, evaluation of plans and initiatives on heat and health.
Through country case studies, expert discussion and audience interaction, participants will explore lessons learned from recent heat events, common implementation challenges and factors that support successful preparedness and response. The session will provide a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences, reflect on emerging priorities and identify practical approaches that can be adapted across different contexts.
