Subject: Consultation of Member States and Associate Members, including their National Commissions for UNESCO, on UNESCO’s Draft Programme and Budget for 2024-2025 (43 C/5)
Sir/Madam,
At its 42nd session, in November 2023, the General Conference of UNESCO set the stage for the preparation of the Draft Programme and Budget for 2026-2029, through a series of consultations with Members States and all partners.
The General Conference confirmed the continued relevance of UNESCO’s Medium-Term Strategy for 2022-2029, its four strategic objectives, two global priorities, Africa and gender equality, and priority groups, small island developing States and youth.
This exercise is an opportunity to further sharpen UNESCO’s focus, reinforce its relevance and harness its multi-disciplinarity in order to meet the demands of our time.
In this context, we invite Member States to express their views both on UNESCO’s achievements in the last four years and on future strategic orientations.
Your responses will feed into both the Strategic Results Report 2024 covering the period of 2020-2023 and the preparation of the preliminary proposals concerning the Draft Programme and Budget for 2026-2029, to be examined by the Executive Board at its 220th session (October 2024). The Draft will then be submitted to the Executive Board at its 221st session (spring 2025).
Please note that each Member State is invited to submit a single reply on behalf of its Government and National Commission by midnight on 15 May 2024, Paris time. The questionnaire is available in the six official languages and can be completed online via the following link: https://survey.unesco.org/consultation43C5
Please accept Sir/Madam, the assurances of my highest consideration.
Audrey Azoulay Director-General
