Dear Colleagues,
The Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting is pleased to invite you to our regular monthly "Diplomatic Briefing," where IER experts share their insights on the current economic situation in Ukraine and present the latest results of our business tendency survey.
The upcoming Diplomatic Briefing, focused on “Ukraine’s economic situation and challenges in September 2026”, will take place online via Zoom on October 12, 2026, Monday, from 16:00 to 17:00 Kyiv time (9:00-10:00 EST / 15:00-16:00 CEST).
In September, economic situation worsened as russia continued attacks on logistics as well as large companies. Steel production stopped as russia targeted key metallurgical plants causing large-scale damages and destruction. Several warehouses were also damaged. As a result, industrial production declined more than in August. Overall, real GDP in 2026 is not likely to increase, while growth perspectives for 2027 are rather gloomy.
At the same time, Ukraine faces large fiscal gap as revenues are lower, expenditures higher, and the Government and the Parliament are not fulfilling all liabilities fully and timely to receive needed international assistance. The gap will turn out higher in 2027.
During the Diplomatic Briefing we will discuss in more details current economic and fiscal challenges. We also will present September business tendencies to reflect on the business sentiments, expectations and obstacles they face.
Speakers:
Oleksandra Betliy, macroeconomic, public finance, social and healthcare expert, IER Leading Research Fellow;
Oksana Kuziakiv, IER Executive Director, Head of the Centre for Contemporary Society studies.
Moderator of the Diplomatic Briefing: Anastasiya Kropova, Research Fellow, IER
