CONCERNING COOPERATION ON ENERGY AND REGIONAL POLICY

Dear Chairpersons of Energy Committees,

I  am  writing  to  you  with  a  view  to  establishing  and  strengthening  cooperation  with  the  energy

committees of the Parliaments of the European Union Member States. Please be informed that a new

Committee on Energy and Sustainable Development was established at the Seimas of the Republic

of Lithuania in April 2026.

Currently, energy policy is intertwined with the European Union’s strategic priorities, namely, energy

security, competitiveness, energy independence, green transition, and the development of a resilient

energy infrastructure. We are convinced that close cooperation among the Parliaments of Member

States, the sharing of best practice, and the search for common solutions are essential to achieving

these objectives.

We  would  like  to  place  particular  emphasis  on  regional cooperation.  In  our  view,  the  energy

challenges  and  opportunities  facing  the  Baltic  Sea  region  and  other  European  regions  require  a

coordinated  approach,  particularly  in  enhancing  the  resilience  of  energy  systems  through  the

development of electricity interconnections, energy infrastructure, renewable energy sources, energy

storage solutions, and the hydrogen economy.

We also wish to pursue a more active dialogue on the European Union’s regional policy and its

links with energy policy. We believe that EU funding instruments and regional development policy

should contribute even more to the modernisation of energy infrastructure, the economic resilience

of the regions, attracting of investment, and ensuring affordable energy prices.

We are willing to share Lithuania’s experience and invite an exchange of practical insights on national

solutions  and  initiatives. We  believe  that  regular  meetings  of  the  chairpersons  and  members  of

parliamentary  energy  committees,  joint  debates,  and  expert  dialogue  could  become  an  important

platform for strengthening common European interests.

We look forward to your support and constructive cooperation, and we are ready to work together to

identify specific forms of cooperation on energy, regional policy and other areas of mutual interest.

I am convinced that close cooperation among our parliamentary committees will contribute to the

creation of a stronger, safer, more competitive and energy-resilient European Union.
