Why HUDERIA and ISO/IEC standards belong together
AI systems have wide impacts
AI systems affect people, society and the environment, including human rights. The Council of Europe developed HUDERIA to understand their impact on human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
Interoperability between ISO/IEC standards and HUDERIA
ISO/IEC standards are already widely used across industries. Mapping HUDERIA onto them reduces complexity and makes HUDERIA easier to adopt. The resulting crosswalk is the project deliverable: it shows how each feeds into the other.
Sovereignty preserved, interoperability built in
Procuring an AI system is more complex than procuring a physical good: part of the IT infrastructure goes to the private sector, often headquartered outside the country.
ISO/IEC standards are developed by consensus, one country, one vote. They let each country apply its own laws and values on a shared, globally agreed normative foundation.
