Big lessons from small nations: Health leadership in a changing climate
Date: Monday, 9 November
Time: 15:0016:00 CET (= 17:0018:00 Antalya time)
Venue: WHO Health Pavilion, COP31
Live stream:
Contact: Ms Sideeka NARAYAN, [email protected]
While small and island nations are among the most vulnerable to climate
change, they are also among the most important sources of leadership,
innovation and inspiration for climate and health action worldwide. Their
experiences offer valuable lessons for all countries seeking to build
healthier, more resilient and sustainable futures. Building on the , this
event will bring together leaders and experts from the Pacific, European,
Caribbean, and African regions to explore how countries most exposed to
climate risks are turning ambition into action. Through lived
experiences, national and regional perspectives, the session will examine
how health can serve as a powerful entry point for accelerating climate
action. The discussion will showcase practical solutions that are
protecting populations, strengthening preparedness, reducing
vulnerability and supporting sustainable development. It will also
explore opportunities to scale impact through stronger partnerships and
cross-regional collaboration.
Turning climate and health ambition into action in the arctic and beyond
Date: Tuesday, 10 November
Time: 12:0013:00 CET (= 14:0015:00 Antalya time)
Venue: Nordic Pavilion, COP31
Live stream: not available
Contact: Ms Sideeka NARAYAN, [email protected]
This event builds on the , launched at the 79th World Health Assembly.
The discussion will draw on experiences from Arctic and Nordic
cooperation, including work through the Arctic Council, national climate
and health initiatives, indigenous-led approaches, and health-system
transformation efforts already underway. The overall objective is to
identify practical implementation priorities while strengthening Nordic,
Arctic and international collaboration on climate and health. We
understand far more about climate and health than we did a decade ago and
the Arctic communities are at the forefront of developing innovative
adaptive responses, which can inspire action across Europe and the World.
The challenge now is to strengthen implementation while continuing to
build the knowledge, partnerships, implementation capacity and
accountability needed to support action.
Keeping cool in the heat: From policy to local action for health
Date: Thursday, 12 November
Time: 08:3009:30 CET (= 10:3011:30 Antalya time)
Venue: WHO Health Pavilion, COP31
Live stream:

Extreme heat is an escalating threat to health and well-being, calling
for stronger preparedness, coordinated action and protection of
populations most at risk. This COP31 event will bring together
policymakers, experts and local actors from across the European Region to
share lessons from recent heatwaves and explore practical solutions that
translate heat-health policies into action, from national strategies to
community-level initiatives. Speakers will include delegates from the
following organizations: the European Commission; the German Federal
Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and
Nuclear Safety; United for Global Mental Health; the International
Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies; the cities of Athens
and Paris; the Royal Institute of British Architects; the World
Meteorological Organization; and the Pan-European Commission on Climate
and Health. WHO/Europe has published the second edition of its (HHAPs),
providing an updated framework to support countries and communities in
strengthening preparedness, coordinated responses and protection against
the growing health risks of extreme heat.
Culture for climate and health: Art as a lever for climate and health
action
Date: Thursday, 12 November
Time: 16:1517:15 CET (= 18:1519:15 Antalya time)
Venue: WHO Health Pavilion, COP31
Live stream:
Contact: Mr Niels FIETJE, [email protected]
The climate crisis is a crisis of culture. It is the result of human
behaviour, rooted in how we consume, what we prioritise, and how we
understand our place within the planets ecosystems. Shifting these
patterns and fostering lasting change requires culture itself to be part
of the conversation. This session brings together voices from climate,
culture, and health to explore how the arts can support health related
impacts of climate change through mitigation, adaptation and
communication. Join us for a live performance by (EarthSonic), an
international collaboration of women artists that turns lived experiences
of water, health and territory into music. This will be followed by a
panel discussion that builds on a newly published by WHO and the Jameel
Arts & Health Lab. The session aims to strengthen multisectoral dialogue
and build an alliance of environment, culture and health, as we head into
the new UN Decade of Culture for Sustainable Development. View the
trailer for the panel .
Healing Arts Well-being Concert
Date: Friday, 13 November
Time: 13:3015:00 Antalya time
Venue: Antalya State Conservatory, Akdeniz University
Contact: Mr Niels FIETJE, [email protected]
For those at COP31, join us for a Healing Arts Well-being Concert at
Antalya State Conservatory. Featuring Flow (EarthSonic), the concert will
present a programme of music and storytelling about the connections
between water, women's lives and health. Water is where the effects of
climate change are most visible and most immediately felt: melting
glaciers, droughts, flooding rivers and rising seas. These changes shape
people's health, livelihoods and well-being. Flow draws on the
experiences of communities from across the world using music to carry
those stories into the setting of COP31. Well-being concerts are an arts
and health event pioneered by New Yorks Carnegie Hall. They combine
elements of guided mindfulness and deep listening with live music in an
immersive, nurturing space.
Please note that this event will not be live streamed.

Join us for a performance and panel, the first of two COP31 events bringing together voices from climate, culture, and health to explore how the arts can support health related impacts of climate change.
Featuring a musical performance by Flow (EarthSonic), an international collaboration of women artists that turns lived experiences of water, health and territory into music.
The session builds on a newly published Arts, Health and Climate Policy Brief by WHO and the Jameel Arts & Health Lab.
The climate crisis is a crisis of culture. It is the result of human behaviour, rooted in how we consume, what we prioritise, and how we understand our place within the planet’s ecosystems. Shifting these patterns and fostering lasting change requires culture itself to be part of the conversation.

While small and island nations are among the most vulnerable to climate change, they are also among the most important sources of leadership, innovation and inspiration for climate and health action worldwide. Their experiences offer valuable lessons for all countries seeking to build healthier, more resilient and sustainable futures. Building on the Pan-European Commission on Climate and Health (PECCH) Call to Action, this event will bring together leaders and experts from the Pacific, European, Caribbean, and African regions to explore how countries most exposed to climate risks are turning ambition into action. Through lived experiences, national and regional perspectives, the session will examine how health can serve as a powerful entry point for accelerating climate action. The discussion will showcase practical solutions that are protecting populations, strengthening preparedness, reducing vulnerability and supporting sustainable development. It will also explore opportunities to scale impact through stronger partnerships and cross-regional collaboration.
