The World Health Organization (WHO) presents its compliments to Member States and

Associate Members and has the honour to inform them that internationally comparable estimates for maternal mortality are planned to be published in March 2025.

Following WHO’s quality standards for data publication and prior to the official release of the above estimates, WHO is consulting with its Member States to review information gathered from primary data sources, ensure the inclusion of additional data sources that may not have been previously identified, and review the individual country estimates derived from the statistical model applied to national country data. The process and development of internationally comparable estimates benefits greatly from these interactions with Member States.

The consultation will be conducted via the WHO country consultation portal with a designated focal point(s).

Member States are requested to designate a focal point(s) for the maternal mortality estimates. Designation of the focal point(s), together with contact details (full name, title, affiliation and email address) should be sent as soon as possible before the opening of the consultation to [email protected]. Focal point(s) will receive instructions on how to access the country consultation portal.

It is expected that the country consultation portal will be open by mid-August 2024 and close eight weeks thereafter. Any submission after this date may not be considered in the final publication of country estimates.

The World Health Organization takes this opportunity to renew to Member States and Associate Members the assurance of its highest consideration.
