Dear Justice Kõve We write in our capacities as President and Vices of the European Law Institute (ELI) to extend an official invitation
to you to speak at ELI’s 2024 Annual Conference at the Honourable Society of King's Inn in Dublin from 9–11
October 2024. Your expertise is particularly suited to our panel on Digitalisation of Civil Justice Systems in Europe,
which is scheduled to take place on 10 October 2024 from 15:30–17:00 GMT. A draft agenda is available here.
By way of background, ELI is an independent non-profit organisation established to initiate, conduct and facilitate
research, make recommendations and provide practical guidance in the field of European legal development.
Among the hallmarks of ELI projects, which span all branches of the law – public and private, substantive and
procedural – is the involvement of diverse legal vocations and European traditions within Project Teams as well as
the fact that it is open to ELI’s entire membership of over 1,700 natural persons and 145 institutions and external
experts to shape project outcomes.
The panel on Digitalisation of Civil Justice Systems in Europe will provide an opportunity to discuss how to
effectively integrate digital technologies in the design of judicial systems while safeguarding fundamental values
(more here). We are therefore confident that the panel will be lively and popular. It would also offer you an
opportunity to address leading judges, lawyers, academics and policy makers from across Europe and beyond on
how developments in this field should evolve.
The panel will draw together four other speakers, one of whom will assume the role of chair. Each speaker’s
contribution is limited to 5 minutes. However, there will be ample opportunity for more coverage and
completeness in the course of the Q&A session at the end. In appreciation of your contribution, ELI would cover
the cost of an economy class travel ticket to the conference and accommodation. It will also waive the registration
fee for the conference, which includes entry into our Opening Reception at the Law Society of Ireland.
We would be delighted if you could accept this invitation and look forward to receiving your decision on availability
within a week. On acceptance, the chair of the panel and the ELI Secretariat will be in touch with more detailed
arrangements in due course.
Yours sincerely
Prof Dr Pascal Pichonnaz Anne Birgitte Gammeljord Sir Geoffrey Vos
