Excellency,
The Commission is finalising a draft Implementing and draft Delegated Regulation under
Regulation (EU) 2023/2411 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18
October 2023 on the protection of geographical indications for craft and industrial
products and amending Regulations (EU) 2017/1001 and (EU) 2019/1753 (CIGI
Regulation). The Implementing and the Delegated Regulation will lay down rules
necessary for the functioning of the new scheme for geographical indications for craft and
industrial products.
Pursuant to Article 68 of the CIGI Regulation, the Commission will be assisted in the
preparation of the Implementing Regulation by the Committee for Craft and Industrial
Geographical Indications in a comitology procedure following the rules applicable to the
examination procedure under Article 5 of Regulation (EU) No 182/2011.
In the preparation of the Delegated Regulation, the Commission will consult the Expert
Group of Industrial Property Policy (GIPP). Member States may decide on the
composition of their delegation in the GIPP meetings according to Commission Decision
of 20 January 2022. GIPP meetings can have the same composition as the comitology
meetings.
The Commission will chair both the comitology and the GIPP meetings. All meetings will
be organised in a hybrid format and will be held in Albert Borschette Congress Center
(Rue Froissart 36, 1040 Brussels). Member States will be requested to inform the
Commission whether they would participate physically or online five days prior to the
meeting.
Member States are invited to nominate their representative(s). Each Member State may
nominate more than one representative and its alternates, indicating who is entitled to vote

in the committee. Member States are also invited to indicate if they wish to replace their
appointed representatives in the GIPP by ad hoc experts.

Please note that only the nominated representatives will be allowed to participate in the
committee meetings. The Commission will reimburse the travel expenses for one
person per Member State for the Committee and for one person per Member State for
the GIPP meetings. The costs of the accommodation are not reimbursed.
The GIPP meetings will be held only in English. Interpretation may be provided in
the comitology meetings depending on the availability of interpreters. Member States are
therefore requested to signal their interpretation needs by 22 May.
The dates of the comitology meetings are as follows:
- 28 June (10:00-13:00),
- 20 September (10:00-13:00),
- 4 November (10:00-13:00),
- 13 December (10:00-13:00),
- 27 January (10:00-13:00)
The dates of the GIPP meetings are as follows:
- 28 June (14:00-17:00),
- 20 September (14:00-17:00),
- 4 November (14:00-17:00),
- 13 December (14:00-17:00),
- 27 January (14:00-17:00)
The agenda and draft rules of procedure of the first comitology and GIPP meeting will be
shared with the Member States following the nomination of their representatives.
