Dear colleagues,
WHO European region is strengthening the data management for vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) surveillance, including AFP/Polio. Since 2003 , laboratories of the WHO European Polio Laboratory Network have been submitting their AFP/Polio laboratory surveillance data to WHO Europe through web-based systems called Polio Laboratory Data Management System (LDMS). Given that LDMS will be phased out soon, the WHO Europe Regional Office is replacing LDMS with WHO Immunization Information System (WIISE), which is a WHO corporate solution for integrated management of VPDs and immunization data.
WIISE will ensure easier, faster, quality-checked and more secure data submission by granting password-protected access to users at lab level. WIISE includes data visualization features and generation of standard reports, such as incidence rate, completeness of reporting and lab performance indicators. Laboratories will be able to download their own database according to their user rights.
The migration process for epidemiological data has already been completed by uploading historical AFP/Polio surveillance data and WIISE was officially launched in April 2023. The current stage in the process, is to develop the laboratory component of WIISE, this reporting system will replace LDMS which will then be discontinued. This step is preliminary to the full development of WIISE laboratory component, which is expected to be launched in Q3/Q4 2024.
To ensure smooth transition from LDMS and successful implementation of AFP/Polio lab component of WIISE, we are kindly requesting you to nominate the user(s) of the laboratory who will be responsible to submit AFP/Polio specimen data to WIISE.
The nominated user(s) will be involved in the technical discussion and will be invited to the planned webinars and trainings. The laboratory users will be granted an access to WIISE to perform the data entry, data browsing and downloading the data for further data analysis.
Please revert to us by Friday, 28th June 2024. The email communication should be sent to [email protected]
Thank you and kind regards,
Eugene
