THE FUTURE OF HEALTHY POPULATION:
ADVANCING VISION, ACCELERATING ACTIONS
THE GLOBAL CONGRESS ON POPULATION, HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT PHDC ‘24
UNDER THE AUSPICES OF H.E. PRESIDENT ABDEL FATTAH EL-SISI
PREFACE
H.E. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaar Minister of Health and Population
Building on the success of the rst Global Congress on Population, Health and Development (PHDC'23), and following the recommendation of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, I am honored to announce PHDC’24, the next chapter in this crucial dialogue. The world continues to navigate a complex landscape of demographic shifts, evolving social trends, and a rapidly changing global environment. These factors signicantly impact health outcomes and our collective pursuit of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly ensuring health and well-being for all.
Achievements from PHDC'23
The signicant progress made in implementing the recommendations set forth by PHDC'23 participants serves as a powerful testament to the collective spirit of this congress. We have witnessed:
• Community Engagement and Empowerment through expanded access to reproductive health services and increased public awareness campaigns.
• Enhanced Funding Mechanisms to ensure the sustainability of population programs, recognizing them as investments in the well-being of Egyptian families.
• Decentralization in Planning and Implementation with engagement across all provincial levels.
• Promoting the Concept of Smaller Families and Child Spacing through Initiatives like the Presidential "The Golden 1000 Days" initiative.
• Integration of Reproductive Health and Population Considerations into Education via dedicated curriculums across all educational levels.
• Revamped Media Strategy using innovative methods to keep the population issue at the forefront of public attention.
• Women Empowerment initiatives are incorporated into the national strategy for population and development 2023-2030 and its action plan.
• Human Resource Development through extensive training programs for outreach workers concerned with population awareness and reproductive health issues.
• Establishment of a Health Economics Unit to conduct crucial research on health and pharmaceutical economics.
• Introducing the One Health Approach that recognizes that the health of people is closely connected to the health of animals and our shared environment.
• Linking Climate Change and Health agging the important interplay between climate change with the emergence of non-communicable diseases, patterns and spread of infectious diseases, and preparedness for emergencies.
Looking forward, the next PHDC'24 builds upon the momentum of PHDC'23, serving as a vital platform for renewed collaboration. Experts, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners from around the world will convene to explore the ongoing commonalities and complementarity between population, health, and sustainable development. Through a dynamic exchange of ideas, best practices, and forward-thinking solutions, we will chart a course toward achieving the vision of a healthy population by accelerating actions on critical issues. I look forward to welcoming you all in Cairo to explore the best means of achieving the desired health and development outcomes for populations around the world.
Together, let us leverage the power of collective action to build a brighter future for generations to come.
The world's population is on a dynamic journey, shaping our health and development. While growth can bring economic benets, it may also present challenges. Ensuring access to essential services and managing resource scarcity become more complex with a growing population. Looming threats like water scarcity, food insecurity, and climate change further endanger a sustainable future.
PHDC 2024 focus goes beyond challenges, it's about navigating and exploring this dynamic landscape, and the population mega trends, with innovative solutions for achieving health for all. We're convening experts, policymakers, and practitioners to tackle these complexities head-on, through exploring how to leverage technology and foster collaboration across sectors to build resilient health systems that are adaptable to population dynamics. This includes empowering individuals and communities through family planning, economic inclusion, ensuring access to aordable medicine and equality.
We recognize the potential within population dynamics. PHDC 2024 will address critical issues like mental health disparities and climate-resilient health systems. We'll explore how to adapt health systems, leverage primary care, and develop creative approaches to meet the evolving needs of a changing population.
Ultimately, PHDC 2024 aspires to chart a global roadmap for a healthier future, where population growth and development work in harmony to advance the vision of a healthy population by accelerating actions towards achieving it.
