Sehr geehrte Frau Kollegin,

zu Ihrer Ernennung zur Justiz- und Digitalministerin der Republik Estland gratuliere ich Ihnen

sehr herzlich und wönsche Ihnen för die Arbeit in diesem verantwortungsvollen Amt alles Gute

und viel Erfolg.

Der anhaltende russische Angriffskrieg auf die Ukraine, die Eskalation des Nahost-Konflikts

und die politische sowie gesamtgesellschaftliche Spaltung der europäischen Mitgliedstaaten

stelit uns vor grolle Herausforderungen. Umso wichtiger ist es, die enge und vertrauensvolle

Zusammenarbeit iinserer Ministerien weiterzuföhren und zu intensivieren.

Gerade in schwierigen Zeiten wie diesen ist der Zusammenhalt der Staaten der Europäischen

Union bedeutender denn je. Wir stehen ais Justizministerinnen und Justizminister in der be

sonderen Verantwortung, för ein rechtsstaatliches, freies und sicheres Europa einzutreten,

welches den Grundrechten der Börgerinnen und Börger Geltung verleiht und zugleich durch

Förderung des Wachstums und Innovation die Stärkung des Wettbewerbs vorantreibt.

Daher freue ich mich sehr, dass Sie mit dem neu aufgestellten Ministerium för Justiz und Di

gitales neue Akzente setzen und die — nicht nur auf nationaler, sondern auch auf EU-Ebene —

so wichtigen Themen Börokratieabbau und Digitalisierung voranbringen möchten. Ich bin zu

versichtlich, dass wir hierzu gemeinsam einen wertvollen Beitrag leisten können. Ich wörde

mich freuen, wenn wir gemeinsame Positionen entwickeln könnten — etwa beim Schutz der

Piease accept my warmest congratuiations on your appointment as Minister of Justice and

Digital Affairs of the Republic of Estonia. 1 wish you ali the very best and every success in this

position of great responsibiiity.

With Russias ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine, the escaiation of the Middie East

confiict, and poiitical and societai division in Europe’s Member States, we currentiy face

immense chaiienges. This makes it ali the more important to maintain and strengthen the ciose

and trusting cooperation between our two ministries.

In difficult times such as these, soiidarity between the Member States of the European Union

is more important than ever. As Ministers of Justice, we have the particular responsibiiity of

speaking up for a free and secure Europe under the ruie of iaw — a Europe that uphoids the

fundamentai rights of our citizens, whiie aiso promoting growth and innovation in order to boost

competitiveness.

In Iight of this, 1 am delighted to see that you are leading the way with a newly established

Ministry of Justice and Digital Affairs and are thereby driving forward the pressing topics of

digitalisation and bureaucracy reduction, which are so important currently, both at the national

and the EU level. Together, 1 am sure we wiIl be able to make a valuable contribution on these

matters. 1 would welcome it if we could work on developing joint positions — for example, on

the topic of privacy protection and confidential communications.

1 very much hope for an opportunity to get to know you in person at one of the next Justice and

Horne Affair CouncHs.
