REQUEST FOR NOMINATION
CROSS-SECTORAL BIORISK AWARENESS AND MITIGATION – 6TH EDITION (BAM2024)
Dear Sir or Madam,
We are pleased to inform you that the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), in
collaboration with the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol), is organising the
sixth edition of the Cross-sectoral biorisk awareness and mitigation training. The training will take place in
Athens, Greece, on 5th-7th November 2024.
The course is designed to train participants selected from key areas (law enforcement, public health/health
emergency services, and civil protection) with an active duty in events involving the intentional/accidental
release of biological agents, and have the capacity to cascade the content of this training within their respective
institutions.
The training, through interactive lectures and exercises, is designed to enhance participants’ skills in preparing
for the intentional or accidental release of biological agents and protecting against biological threats across
different sectors. It also aims to provide the participants with the ability to train others within their institutions,
using practical strategies and materials.
Due to the complexity of the topic and the aim to establish cross-sectoral regional preparedness partnerships,
this training is organised with a regional approach.
This edition will involve participants from 14 EU Countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Czech Republic,
Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia) and participants from the
EU candidates and potential candidates countries.
For all participating countries up to 3 trainees per country (one representative from each sector described above
are expected).
The identified EU/EEA MS Competent Authorities are kindly invited to nominate at least 1 candidate* from each
of the following key areas:
• “Public Health” (e.g., paramedics, nurses, emergency physicians, red cross, etc.) to be appointed by the
NFPs and NCs via the ECDC;
• “Law enforcement” (e.g., police officers acting as trainers for CBRN experts or specialists) to be
appointed by the EU MSs Competent Authorities via Europol – ENUs;
• “Civil protection” (e.g., firefighters acting as trainers in CBRN, etc.) to be appointed by ECDC with the
support of DG ECHO).
The nominated candidates should have the following profile:
• Be employed in one of the following sectors - Public Health/Health Emergency Services, Law Enforcement, or Civil Protection with an active duty in events involving the intentional/accidental release of biological agents;
• Have the capacity to cascade the content of this training within their respective institutions; and
• Good working knowledge of English language.
There are NO fees associated to this training. ECDC will cover travel expenses, accommodation and meals of
participants.
The participants’ nominations (including their affiliation and email address) should be sent at your earliest
convenience, not later than 9th September 2024, to the email address [email protected].
