Short description of the initiative: (background, aim, participants, activity plan, budget outline, communication and dissemination)
"EST-LI: Sound Connections - Uniting Cultures Through Music" is a pioneering cultural
initiative poised to bridge Estonia and Liechtenstein through the universal language of music. By
uniting established festivals and cultural organisations, this project will forge lasting institutional
partnerships and enrich the lives of its participants.
As the first EEA cultural project uniting our nations, this initiative sets the stage for a vibrant and
enduring legacy of artistic exchange and collaboration. It aims to foster artistic exchange and
strengthen cultural ties between the two countries and champion the core European values of
openness, diversity, and creativity.
The project will feature joint performances, workshops, and community events celebrating the
musical traditions of both nations. Key participants include Jazz Time Fest (Estonia), LIFE in
Schaan festival (Liechtenstein), Kultur-Traverse (Liechtenstein), musicians and music students
from both countries.
LIFE in Schaan and Kultur-Traverse aim to connect with Estonian audiences, while Jazz Time Fest
seeks to learn community engagement strategies and create performance opportunities for Estonian
artists in Liechtenstein.
Key Participants:
LIFE Festival in Schaan: A popular music festival offering a diverse program of concerts and
performances on multiple stages, catering to a wide audience. The festival regularly features
international headliners and attracts around 8,000 visitors over two days. The LIFE Festival
combines music, culture and art performance at the highest level.
Jazz Time Fest: Established in 2004, Jazz Time Fest has grown into a vibrant year-round music
event showcasing over 200 local and international musicians. The festival, hosted at the stunning
Sillamäe Cultural Center, an architectural gem by the Baltic Sea, features acclaimed acts and aims to
become a premier music stage in Ida-Viru County.

Liechtenstein and beyond, serving as a central hub for cultural networking and collaboration. They
bring expertise in event planning and support, ensuring the seamless execution of our project's
diverse activities.

Dear Vladimir Vossokski,
Thank you for your interest in a cultura exchange in Jazz with Liechtenstein. In our Jazztrio "TRIMOLON Jazzscapes" we discussed this great possibility to come to Estonia somewhen between October 2024 and April 2025 to play at the Jazz Time Fest & Club, in workshops and performances.
Our Trio exists since 2016 in this constellation, recorded three albums and play more than hunderd concerts in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and Liechtenstein. https://trimolon.com https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=trimolon%20-%20jazzscapes https://www.instagram.com/trimolon/
With the Kultur-Traverse we have a partner organisation in Liechtenstein which has the expertise in EEA Grants participation, so the handling with all the details can be easier for us. It would be a pleasure for us to come. I don’t know how and when a return visit of a estoninan Jazz formation in Liechtenstein could be realized, but with all the helping hands here in Liechtenstein I’m quite optimistic in turn of that.
How can we proceed further on?
Best regards,
Stefan Frommelt

LIE CULTURE EEA GRANTS / DONOR PARTNER SEARCH
Ideas and possibilities for collaboration between the Jazz Time Fest & Club, Estonian, and Kultur- Traverse, Liechtenstein. The potential partners:
- Jazz Time Fest & Club, Kesk 24, 40231 Sillamäe, Kreis Ida-Viru, Estland Kontaktperson: Vladimir Võssotski, [email protected]
- Kultur-Traverse, Eichenstrasse 58, 9492 Eschen, Liechtenstein – www.kultur-traverse.com Kontaktperson: Elmar Gangl, [email protected]
We read with interest about the possibility of collaboration in the field of jazz with concerts, workshops and cultural exchange in general. As an association that is committed to cultural exchange in all artistic fields, this is of course a welcome project, as we are also keen to publicise Liechtenstein artists beyond the country's borders. Liechtenstein has a small, lively jazz scene. The Tangente in Eschen www.tangente.li is a very renowned jazz club, the TAK in Schaan https://www.tak.li/spielplan?sparten=TAK_Music also has jazz in its programme, and other smaller events and concerts take place regularly in other municipalities in Liechtenstein. We would of course also like to present part of the Liechtenstein jazz scene in Estonia! The Kultur-Traverse association can fulfil the desire for active participation in joint performances and workshops and knowledge transfer in the field of jazz music with various musicians and ensembles (see also the feedback from Stefan Frommelt). And the promotion of cultural exchange between Estonia and Liechtenstein is in the association's very own interest - that was also the reason for founding the association.
Liechtenstein Jazz in Estonia? We from the cultural organisation Kultur-Traverse would like to suggest the Jazz Duo Ospelt/McAlavey with the Liechtenstein Jazz singer Karin Ospelt and the aspiring Jazz pianist Daniel McAlavey. The musical range of these two young musicians is very diverse and includes, among other things, folk songs, which the two often package in a reduced, poetic dress. This could be an indication or an inspiring starting point for a collaboration with you (but is not mandatory). A musical example of the duo in Liechtenstein can be heard here: «Flussliad» - https://ospeltmcalavey.bandcamp.com/track/flussliad «Numma Umma» - https://ospeltmcalavey.bandcamp.com/track/numma-umma-doralice Another idea would be to introduce Estonian Jazz musicians to each other's favorite folk songs from their home countries and to play and perform them together on stage. This could happen as part of a concert at the “Jazz Time Festival” in Sillamäe in summer 2025. We could also imagine holding workshops with teenagers or young adults interested in Jazz, for example on topics such as songwriting, improvisation, and adapting folk songs into the world of Jazz. We look forward to your response and are curious to know whether and how our cultural exchange will be organised. Best regards Elmar Gangl, Kultur-Traverse

Further information about the Duo Ospelt/McAlavey Karin Ospelt, vocals Daniel McAlavey, piano
The duo's music carries intuitive momentary improvisation back to the dreamy river bank. Karin Ospelt's velvet voice goes hand in hand with Daniel McAlavey's lyrical piano playing. Carefully selected songs from jazz traditions, folk songs, pop songs and their own compositions tell us about the blue sky, inner and outer peace and shadows. So that you almost no longer dare to leave this musical daydream. Music: https://ospeltmcalavey.bandcamp.com/album/songs-of-willow-wind-and-moon-live-concert
