The European Judicial Robes Exhibition
Honourable President of the Supreme Court,
In 2024, Slovenian judges will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Courts Act and
the Judicial Service Act. These two pivotal laws, enacted three decades ago, redefined the organization and management of the courts with the goals of enhancing the
efficiency and quality of the judicial system and making it more accessible to the public.
For the first time in Slovenia, these laws also introduced the requirement for judges,
prosecutors, and attorneys to wear distinctive robes during public hearings. These robes, more than just professional attire, symbolize the dignity of the judicial process
and the authority of the judiciary. At the same time it emphasizes the fundamental judicial principles of independence and impartiality.
To mark this milestone, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia will host a
special thematic exhibition on Justice Day in November 2024, where these robes will be prominently featured. Alongside the Slovenian robes, we would like to showcase
the robes worn by Supreme Court judges from European Union member states.
I would be deeply honored if you could lend us a robe of your Supreme Court judges for this occasion. The exhibited items will be displayed in secure, locked showcases
with special security measures in place. We would treat them with utmost care and make sure to return them to you after the exhibition.
