Subject: Invitation by the Venice Commission to the International Conference on “Respect for the Judgments of Constitutional Courts†to be held in Yerevan, Armenia on 14 and 15 November
Dear Colleagues,
We would be grateful if you could forward this email to Justice Ivo Pilving.
Dear Mr Pilving
I hope this message finds you well.
I am pleased to inform you about an upcoming international high-level conference titled “Respect for the Judgments of the Constitutional Courts,” which will take place in Yerevan, Armenia, on Thursday, 14 November 2024, and the morning of Friday, 15 November 2024. The conference is co-organized by the Venice Commission, the Constitutional Court of Armenia, and the Department for Implementation of Human Rights, Justice, and Legal Co-operation Standards of the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe.
This conference aims to highlight the crucial role of constitutional court decisions in upholding the rule of law and protecting human rights at both national and international levels. It will bring together constitutional court judges, liaison officers, members of the Venice Commission, and representatives of the Council of Europe to engage in a comprehensive dialogue on the importance of respecting constitutional court decisions across various branches of government and the public. Additionally, discussions will focus on how constitutional courts can effectively connect national legal systems with international human rights frameworks.
We are honoured to extend an invitation for you to participate as a speaker in Panel Discussion II: “Ways of Implementation of the Decisions of the Constitutional Court”.
Upon receiving your confirmation of availability and consent to participate, we will send you the official invitation letter, detailed agenda, and the specific subtopic for your presentation.
For your reference, the conference will feature four panels:
The first panel will explore the pivotal role of Constitutional Courts in implementing the European Convention on Human Rights and other treaties.
The second panel will examine the respect and methods of implementing constitutional court decisions across Europe.
The third panel will discuss constitutional review within the context of the Rule of Law checklist of the Venice Commission and its application by national jurisdictions.
The final panel will address the impact of media and social media on public perception and criticism of constitutional court decisions.
Please note that all expenses related to your participation will be covered by the organisers.
We kindly ask that you confirm your availability by 17 September at the latest. We would greatly appreciate your prompt response.
Thank you in advance for considering this invitation.
Best regards,
Vahe Demirtshyan
