The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Estonia presents its compliments to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Cornmunications, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has the honor to inform the latter as follows:
Last Thursday, 1 9th Septernber, China and the European Union (EU) engaged in a comprehensive, in-depth, and constructive consultation regarding the EU’s ongoing anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese electric vehieles (EVs). The consultation between the Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao and the European Commission Executive Vice President and Trade Commissioner Vaidis Dombrovskis. Both sides expressed elearly their political will to resolve differences through consultations, and agreed to continue pushing forward negotiations on the price commitments, and spare no effort to reach a mutually acceptable solution through friendly dialogue and consultation.
The price commitment solution during the investigation and further improved it based on the concerns of the EU, proposed by the Chinese industry fully demonstrated the utmost flexibility and sincerity from the Chinese side. Chinese governrnent, on the other hand, encourage Chinese industry to invest in EU, in order to reach a win-win outcome.
However, on 1 9th September, pretty much the same day when China and EU engaged in the consultation, the Government of Estonia decided to be in favor of EU’s imposing a countervailing duty on Chinese EVs. According to the statement from the Estonian Government, Chinese EVs weights about 15% of Estonia EVs market shares. We believe that Chinese EVs with affordable prices benefits Estonian consumers and speed up Estonia’s efforts in Green Transition.
In views of the on going negotiations between China and EU, we sincerely hope the Government of the Republic of Estonia reconsider its position on this issue. The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Estonia is open for friendly dialogue and exchange on this issue with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications or other government organs of the Republic of EstoniaANJs..
