The Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting would like to invite you for our regular monthly ‘Diplomatic Briefing’ during which IER experts share their views on the economic situation in Ukraine as well as present the results of recent business tendency survey.
The next Diplomatic Briefing dedicated to a discussion “Ukraine’s economic situation and challenges in September 2024” will be held online via Zoom on October 14, 2024, Monday, from 16:00 to 17:00 Kyiv time (9:00-10:00 EST / 15:00-16:00 CEST).
In September Ukraine produced more electricity due to completed repairs of blocks on nuclear power plants and high imports and, as a result, the access to electricity substantially improved. This supported the development of manufacturing, which is reflected in companies’ reports. As disruption of electricity access became smaller, the key impediment for business development was lack of labour (according to the results of the IER business tendency survey). Moreover, uncertainty about future developments remains high.
The Government and the Parliament approved amendments to the State Budget Law for 2024, but failed to amend the Tax Code, which is to be done in October. Moreover, the Government submitted the Draft Budget Law for 2025 to the Parliament. Overall, the fiscal situation in 2024 and 2025 remains difficult. Next year the fiscal gap might be covered by recently announced MFA from the EU at EUR 35 bn. More on all these fiscal issues will be discussed during the Briefing on Monday.
The IER experts will discuss these and other recent economic trends (including trade developments, monetary policy, inflation, etc), challenges and outlook during the Briefing. Besides, more results of the IER business tendency survey, conducted in September, will be presented.
Speakers:
Oleksandra Betliy, macroeconomic, public finance, social and healthcare expert, IER Leading Research Fellow;
Vitaliy Kravchuk, macroeconomic, monetary policy and financial market expert, IER Leading Research Fellow;
Oksana Kuziakiv, IER Chief Executive, Head of the Center for Contemporary Society studies.
