2 14, 20, 27 Pilot activities in the context of 'plastic waste in remote and mountainous areas'
The project 'plastic waste in remote and mountainous areas' launched in 2019 with funding from the Governments of Netherlands, Norway and France based on which data and infomation has been collected and awareness raising materials have been developed by the Secretariat and were dissiminated. In addition, small-scale funding projects have been established in countries of Kazkhstan, Lesotho, North Macedonia, Peru, Rwanda, Seychelles, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan covering development of national inventory of plastic waste and an analysis of national, legal, policy, and institutional framework for the environmentally sound management (ESM) of plastic waste and pilot activities in mountain resorts. The Secretariat has been requested by a few other countries (i.e. Eswatini, Argentina, Chile, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan) to expand the activities in particular pilot projects in the mountainous regions.
(1) 2-3 Pilot projects targeting the plastic waste in mountainous countries and regions, focusing (a) on education, awareness raising, training for mountain guides, tourists and national park guides; (b) sorting, collecting and recylcing plastic waste and establishing a plastic waste management plan for the target areas.

3 20 Awareness raising activites and best practices on 'waste containing nanomaterials'
The Secretariat has been requested in COP decisions of BC13/17, BC-14/14, BC-15/16 and BC-16/13 to collect new information related to activities aimed at addressing issues related to waste containing nanomaterials, including case studies about and best practices relating to the management of waste containing nanomaterials submitted by the Parties and observers. The Secretariat has also been asked by the COP BC-16/13 to organize activities, subject to the availability of resources, to raise awareness among Parties of activities aimed at addressing issues related to waste containing nanomaterials, including case studies about and best practices relating to the management of waste containing nanomaterials collected. As a result, the first webinar on 'sound management of waste containing nanomaterials' has been organized in close collaboration with UNITAR, bringing together experts on the issue of waste containing nanomaterials to share their perspective and experiences and the lastest developments in this field. The Secretariat would like to carry forward with similar activities in the future, including but limited to in-person regional workshops on the same topic.
(1) Regional workshops, possibly in-person, as a follow up to the first webinar on 'sound management of waste containing nanomaterials' for the Parties. (2) A consultant to develop policy briefs, and fact sheets based on the best practices submitted by the Parties and Observers since the COP13 and decision BC13/17 as well as the report prepared by the Secretariat on issues related to waste containing nanomaterials and options for further work under the Convention .

15 15 Strengthening capacities of selected Parties in Asia to develop and notify final regulatory actions (FRAs), submit import responses and fulfil other obligations under the Rotterdam Convention.
Compliance with Articles 5 and 10 is critical for the functioning of the Rotterdam Convention. Yet, a number of Parties in Asia have to date not notified any FRAs (e.g. Cambodia, Lao PDR, Philippines) and/or are missing a significant number of import responses, specifically for industrial chemicals (e.g. Nepal, Viet Nam). Several Parties in the region have expressed the need for support in these and other areas reated to national implementation of the Convention. Moreover, regional cooperation among DNAs can be promoted.
(1) Substantive and logistical preparations, including preparatory calls with the Parties, arrangement of travel etc. (2) Organization of a training workshop focusing on FRAs, import responses and other topics, bringing together the Designated National Authorities (DNAs) of ca. 5-7 Parties (2-3 participants per Party) in the Asia region. (3) Follow-up, including development of the workshop report, follow-up webinar etc.
