dear Mr Värk,

The Berlin Security Conference (BSC) 2024 will continue to reflect current and very worrisome

developments in the political and military-strategic situation. We are witnessing a continuation of

Russia's invasion of Ukraine in contravention of international law, furthermore facing an extremely

critical and unstable situation in the Middle East, while observing escalating tensions in the Indo-Pacific.

NATO and the European Union and their partners are doing their utmost to safeguard, promote, and

defend rule-based law, freedom, and democracy. With this in mind, the slogan for this year’s BSC is:

“NATO, the EU and their Allies: Deterring Threats to Freedom and Democracy”. This slogan will be

reflected in the five strategic topics selected for our main programme: The situation in Ukraine,

deterrence, defence in and for Europe, the situation in the Middle East, the 75th anniversary of NATO

and, last but not least, EU capabilities when it comes to actively safeguarding the values of the free

world.

Incidentally: The BSC 2024 will be the first major Security Conference in the wake of EU and U.S.

presidential elections – which should add some interesting facets to facilitate networking and stimulate

discussions.

at Vienna House Andel’s Berlin. The topics will be: “The Way ahead in Defence Planning” and “Capabilities for Naval Forces”.

The President of the BSC 2024 will once again be Wolfgang Hellmich, Member of the Bundestag and

spokesperson for the Working Group on Security and Defence Policy of the SPD Parliamentary Party

Group in the Bundestag.

Major General (ret) Reinhard Wolski (Chairman BSC) and Colonel (ret) Thomas Greggersen

(Coordinator BSC) shall be at your disposal at any and all times to inform you in a short briefing about
