Dear Professor Asser, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the warm welcome from you and your team during my recent visit to the University of Tartu and Tartu University Hospital. It was a privilege to engage in thoughtful discussions on key health challenges and to learn more about the important work being carried out by your medical faculty. I was particularly interested in the wide range of research being undertaken, from antimicrobial resistance and genetics to personalized medicine, health technology assessment and guideline development. These areas are of significant relevance to the WHO Regional Office for Europe and reflect the depth of expertise within your institution. Our discussions on national health security, noncommunicable diseases, the challenges (and opportunities) posed by a rapidly ageing population, mental health, and climate change were highly valuable. I also appreciated the University’s commitment to addressing antimicrobial resistance, as well as animal and environmental health. Kristina Köhler, Head of the WHO Country Office in Estonia and a proud alumna of the University of Tartu, will follow up on the outcomes of our meeting, including with the guidelines team, to explore strengthened collaboration towards the designation of a WHO Collaborating Centre. Thank you again for your hospitality and for the important contributions your University is making to health research and education. Yours sincerely, Dr Hans Henri P. Kluge Regional Director
