ANNOTATIONS

Item No. 1 – Opening of the session

1. The 84th session of the General Assembly will be held on 12 December 2024 at the seat of

UNIDROIT. The meeting will start at 10.00 CET.

Item No. 2 – Appointment of the Chair of the General Assembly 2024-2025

2. Her Excellency Ambassador Nosipho Nausca-Jean Jezile (South Africa) chaired the General

Assembly for the period 2023-2024. According to the practice of yearly rotation among the

geographic regions into which UNIDROIT’s membership is divided in accordance with Article 7(7) of

the UNIDROIT Regulations, it will be for the Americas group of States to nominate the Chair for the

period 2024-2025.

NOTE VERBALE

The International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) presents its

compliments to Embassy of the Republic of Estonia in Italy and has the honour to inform that the

84th Session of the General Assembly

will be held in Rome at the seat of the Institute, Via Panisperna 28,

on Thursday 12th December 2024, beginning at 10 a.m.

Under the terms of Article 5 of the UNIDROIT Statute, the Governments, other than that of

Italy, are represented by their diplomatic representatives or their deputies, or any other authority

the former so delegate.

The annotated draft agenda of the session is attached hereto. The documentation will follow

in due course. UNIDROIT Member States are kindly invited to note that the 84th session of the General

Assembly shall be called upon to adopt decisions concerning: (i) the reappointment of the Auditor;

(ii) the appointment of members the Administrative Tribunal.

UNIDROIT also has the honour to invite Member States to attend two side events of the 84th

session of the General Assembly:

On the same day as the General Assembly (Thursday 12th December) at 3 pm the President

of UNIDROIT and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation invite the Legal

Advisers of UNIDROIT Member States and the National Representatives and Observers of the

Committee of Legal Advisers on Public International Law (CAHDI) of the Council of Europe to a

High-Level Side Event on “National Judges and International Soft Law.

A Lunch Reception Buffet will be served at the Institute for Representatives attending both

the General Assembly Session and the High-Level Side Event.

Furthermore, Member States are kindly invited to attend an event to mark the end of the

term of South Africa as Chair of the General Assembly for 2023-2024. This event shall be co-

hosted with the South African Embassy in Rome and is scheduled in the morning of 13 December

2024 from 9.00 (with a Welcome Coffee) to approximately 12.30.

The Programmes for both Side Events shall be circulated to the entire UNIDROIT Membership

in due course. Meanwhile, Member States are kindly invited to notify the Secretariat of their

intention to attend the session by close of business 10th November 2024.

UNIDROIT would be grateful if the Embassy of the Republic of Estonia in Italy would kindly

communicate the contents of this Note Verbale as well as its enclosure to the competent Authorities

of its Government.
