DIRECTOR-GENERAL
Reference: DG/LT/2024/O/22518 30 October 2024
Excellency,
On behalf of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), I have the honour to extend an invitation to you and your delegation to attend the 15th session of the IRENA Assembly, to be held in-person, from 11 to 13 January 2025 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
As we convene shortly after the conclusion of COP 29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, this Assembly session
provides a timely opportunity to build upon the momentum generated and address the critical role of renewable energy in global climate action. The Assembly will focus on assessing progress in the global energy transition, discussing innovative policies and technologies in renewable energy, strengthening international cooperation for accelerated renewable energy deployment and exploring financing mechanisms for sustainable energy projects.
Marking the 5th World Energy Transition Day, the Assembly session will gather global leaders and energy decision-makers to chart a strategic way forward across countries, regions and the world, in light of the findings of the first Global Stocktake at COP 28, the outcomes of COP29 as well as the results of the first edition of the report “Delivering on the UAE Consensus: Tracking Progress toward tripling renewable energy capacity and doubling energy efficiency by 2030”, from IRENA, COP29 Presidency, COP28 Presidency, Government of Brazil and Global Renewable Alliance (GRA).
Given the urgent need for extraordinary levels of political momentum and international cooperation,
several Ministerial and High-level sessions will be convened as part of the Assembly session, as well as during the Pre-Assembly Day on 11 January 2025, to facilitate interaction between decision-makers on pressing issues related to the energy transition in the coming decade and beyond, and inform the future work of the Agency. In line with the inclusive nature of discussions, the Legislators Forum, Public-Private Dialogue and Youth Forum will continue to provide opportunities for insights and discussions with and among actors that are vital to our collective ambition to achieve a just and inclusive future based on renewables.
Your presence and participation at the IRENA Assembly is crucial as we work collectively towards a
sustainable energy future and will be a powerful catalyst for collaboration and action towards a sustainable future powered by renewable energy, as your insights and perspectives will undoubtedly enrich the discussions and contribute to the success of this global event.
As a key decision-maker, your presence is invaluable to:
• Forge the path forward: Engage in high-level dialogues with fellow Ministers and industry leaders to identify concrete and actionable steps for tripling renewable energy capacity worldwide by 2030. • Share best practices: Showcase your country’s pioneering initiatives and exchange valuable knowledge on building enabling policy frameworks, mobilizing finance, and developing critical skills for a successful energy transition. • Shape IRENA’s future: Contribute to shaping the priorities and direction of IRENA’s work through your active participation in Ministerial roundtables, High-level panel discussions and interactive events.

In parallel to the Assembly, the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) will offer a dynamic platform for exploring cutting-edge technologies and partnerships to drive the energy transition. Your participation in both events will be a powerful catalyst for collaboration and action towards a sustainable future powered by renewable energy.
I look forward to welcoming you to the IRENA Assembly in January 2025 as your valuable
contribution, together with other energy leaders, will further our collective action to achieve transformative change in support of just energy transitions worldwide, for our people, planet, and shared prosperity.
I would like to reaffirm my commitment to strengthening international collaboration and ensuring
that IRENA is best able to support the path towards the new energy era through the recognition of local, regional and global realities.
Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.
