Global Conference on Air Pollution and Health: Accelerating action for clean air, clean energy access and climate change mitigation

The World Health Organization (WHO) presents its compliments to Member States and has the honour to invite them to the Second Global Conference on Air Pollution and Health: Accelerating action for clean air, clean energy access and climate change mitigation.1 co-organized with the Government of Colombia. The Conference will be held at the Centro de Convenciones Cartagena de Indias in Cartagena, Colombia, from 25 to 27 March 2025, with pre- and post-conference events on 24 and 28 March 2025.

The Conference aims to convene participants from all over the world including Heads of State, Ministers, mayors and other local and national senior government officials, as well as United Nations agency representatives, members of civil society organizations, philanthropic foundations, technical experts and other stakeholders.

The first day of the Conference will present evidence of progress made since the World Health Assembly resolution WHA68.8 (https://iris.who.int/handle/10665/253237) in 2015. This will be followed by presentations on the health impacts of air pollution on specific diseases and vulnerable groups, as well as the interlinkages with climate change. The second day will focus on translating the health evidence into concrete solutions and actions at multilateral, national and subnational levels. The third day will be a high-level action day, where representatives from Member States and other stakeholders will discuss and announce concrete, measurable actions to improve air quality and protect human health. The preliminary agenda, background information and documents are available at the Conference website.

Member States are requested to nominate up to two ministerial representatives to attend the Conference. Considering the theme of the Conference, it would be appreciated to have a nominee from the health sector. Participation from other relevant ministries such as environment, energy, transport, foreign affairs and finance is also welcomed.

Member States’ nominees are invited to register not later than 31 December 2024, via the registration platform.

The Conference Organizing Committee would like to encourage the participation of Member States classified as least developed countries (LDC) by the United Nations (https://unctad.org/topic/least-developed-countries/list) by providing a return ticket in economy class and per diem to one representative of such countries. L’Organisation mondiale de la Santé (OMS) présente ses compliments aux États Membres et a l’honneur de les inviter à la Deuxième Conférence mondiale sur la pollution de l’air et la santé : agir plus vite pour améliorer la qualité de l’air, élargir l’accès aux énergies propres et atténuer les changements climatiques,1 organisée conjointement avec le Gouvernement de la Colombie. La Conférence aura lieu au Centro de Convenciones Cartagena de Indias à Cartagena (Colombie), du 25 au 27 mars 2025. Des manifestations connexes se tiendront en amont et en aval, les 24 et 28 mars 2025.

Cette Conférence vise à réunir des participants du monde entier, notamment des chefs d’État, des ministres, des maires et d’autres hauts fonctionnaires des administrations locales et nationales, ainsi que des représentants d’institutions des Nations Unies, des représentants d’organisations de la société civile et de fondations philanthropiques, des experts techniques et d’autres parties intéressées.

Lors de la première journée de la Conférence, des données seront présentées sur les progrès accomplis depuis l’adoption en 2015 de la résolution WHA68.8 de l’Assemblée mondiale de la Santé. Différents exposés seront ensuite consacrés aux conséquences sanitaires de la pollution de l’air sur certaines maladies et certains groupes vulnérables, et aux liens avec les changements climatiques. La deuxième journée portera sur la façon de s’appuyer sur les données de santé pour formuler des solutions et des mesures concrètes au niveau multilatéral, national et infranational. La troisième journée sera placée sous le signe de l’action de haut niveau : les représentants des États Membres et les autres parties prenantes auront des échanges et annonceront des actions concrètes et mesurables pour améliorer la qualité de l’air et protéger la santé humaine. Les États Membres sont priés de désigner jusqu’à deux représentants ministériels pour cette Conférence. Compte tenu du thème, il serait souhaitable que l’un de ces représentants appartienne au secteur de la santé. Государствам-членам предлагается направить на конференцию до двух представителей министерского уровня. Принимая во внимание тему конференции, приветствуется назначение хотя бы одного делегата из сектора здравоохранения. Также приветствуется участие представителей других соответствующих министерств, например охраны окружающей среды, энергетики, транспорта, иностранных дел или финансов.

Делегатам государств-членов предлагается не позднее 31 декабря 2024 г. пройти регистрацию на регистрационной платформе.

Оргкомитет конференции хотел бы посодействовать участию представителей государств-членов, относящихся к категории наименее развитых стран (НРС) по классификации Организации Объединенных Наций (https://unctad.org/topic/least-developed- countries/list), и оплатить билет экономическим классом для проезда к месту проведения конференции и обратно, а также суточные для одного делегата от каждой НРС. Conferencia Mundial sobre Contaminación del Aire y Salud

Acelerar la acción por un aire limpio, el acceso a energía

limpia y la mitigación del cambio climático

La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) presenta sus respetos a los Estados Miembros

y tiene el honor de invitarlos a la Segunda Conferencia Mundial sobre Contaminación del Aire y

Salud: acelerar la acción por un aire limpio, el acceso a energía limpia y la mitigación del cam-

bio climático,1 organizada junto con el Gobierno de Colombia. La Conferencia se celebrará en el

Centro de Convenciones «Cartagena de Indias» en Cartagena (Colombia) del 25 al 27 de marzo

de 2025, con eventos antes y después de la Conferencia los días 24 y 28 de marzo de 2025.

La Conferencia tiene por objeto convocar a participantes de todo el mundo, entre ellos je-

fes de Estado, ministros, alcaldes y otros funcionarios superiores de la Administración pública

local y nacional, así como representantes de organismos de las Naciones Unidas, miembros de

organizaciones de la sociedad civil, fundaciones filantrópicas, expertos técnicos y otras partes

interesadas.

En el primer día de la Conferencia se presentarán evidencias sobre los avances logrados

desde la adopción de la resolución WHA68.8 de la Asamblea Mundial de la Salud

(https://apps.who.int/gb/ebwha/pdf_files/wha68/a68_r8-sp.pdf) en 2015. A continuación se pre-

sentarán ponencias sobre el impacto sanitario de la contaminación del aire en determinadas en-

fermedades y grupos vulnerables, y sobre los vínculos con el cambio climático. El segundo día

se centrará en la traslación de las evidencias relacionadas con la salud a soluciones y acciones

concretas en los niveles multilateral, nacional y subnacional. El tercer día, que estará dedicado a

una acción de alto nivel, los representantes de los Estados Miembros y otras partes interesadas

debatirán y anunciarán acciones concretas y mensurables para mejorar la calidad del aire y prote-

Se pide a los Estados Miembros que designen hasta dos representantes ministeriales para

asistir a la Conferencia. Habida cuenta del tema que se tratará, convendría que una de las perso-

nas designadas fuera del sector de la salud. También se acogerá con satisfacción la participación

de otros ministerios pertinentes, como los de medio ambiente, energía, transporte, relaciones ex-

teriores y finanzas.

Se invita a las personas designadas por los Estados Miembros a que se inscriban a más tar-

dar el 31 de diciembre de 2024 a través de la plataforma de inscripción.

El Comité Organizador de la Conferencia quisiera animar a los países incluidos en la lista

de países menos adelantados de las Naciones Unidas (https://unctad.org/topic/least-developed-

countries/list) a que participen sufragando un billete de ida y vuelta en clase económica y las die-

tas a un representante por cada país menos adelantado. Las personas que reúnan los requisitos y

deseen solicitar esta ayuda deberán indicarlo en el momento de inscribirse a través de la plata-

forma de inscripción.

con el folleto, el orden del día provisional con los oradores confirmados, resúmenes científicos y

invita a los Estados Miembros a que traten de que haya equilibrio de género en sus delegaciones.
