Dear Madam,
Request for nomination of a focal point for the development of the European Programme of Work 2 (EPW2)
I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the strong country delegation that participated in the recent 74th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe (RC74). I am proud of the results we have achieved together in my first term and am truly humbled by the unanimous trust in my leadership. I look forward to continuing and innovating our joint work to improve health and well-being across the WHO European Region.
As requested by RC74, under my renewed mandate, I am launching the development of the European Programme of Work 2 (EPW2), which will focus on addressing the urgent health challenges of today while preparing the ground for the emerging global trends of tomorrow. EPW2 will be co-created with Member States and partners, including youth and civil society, to set the agenda for the next five years, with a view to 2050, and based on the Fourteenth General Programme of Work (GPW14) and a set of agreed priorities.
To that end, I request that you, dear Minister, nominate a trusted EPW2 focal point of your choosing, with whom we can liaise throughout the EPW2 development process and who can represent you and your country’s vision for the work of the WHO Regional Office for Europe during my second term.
In early December, we will convene regular meetings with all EPW2 focal points. EPW2 focal points will also be invited to attend and contribute to regional and subregional meetings, be asked to support the dialogue with individual countries, and directly contribute to reviewing subsequent drafts of EPW2. We anticipate that this engagement could be up to four hours per month between December and July.
Your focal point's participation is crucial to ensure that the EPW2 agenda reflects your country’s priorities and takes into account the many innovative health systems initiatives in your country.
We would be grateful if you would share the name and contact details of your nominated focal point by 29 November 2024 with Dr Gundo Weiler, Acting Regional Emergency Director, via email: [email protected].
We look forward to hearing from you. Yours very truly, Dr Hans Henri P. Kluge Regional Director
