Scope and purpose
The 53 Member States of the WHO European Region have endorsed the EUR/RC73/8 framework for action on the health and care workforce in the WHO European Region 2023–20301 (hereafter named the Framework) at the 73rd Regional Committee for Europe in October 2023. The Framework is a powerful vehicle to enhance human resources for health information systems (HRHIS) and make optimal use of data and research. It also calls on WHO to assist countries in evaluating their HRHIS, developing improvement plans, and strengthening data collection and analysis for informed policy-making. The WHO European Region will convene national counterparts in the area of health workforce to one-day virtual workshop entitled “Unlocking the Power of Data and Human Resources for Health Information Systems to Support Health and Care Workforce Development in the WHO European Region” to support the implementation of the Framework. The workshop aims to bring together data focal points with the nominated health workforce focal points, namely, focal point to the WHO/Europe Network of Human Resources for Health, Government Chief Nurse and/or Midwife or equivalent positions to the WHO/Europe Government Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officers Hub. Data focal points may coincide with the data focal point to National Health Workforce Accounts (NHWA). The objectives of the workshop are to:
- Improve the quality and use of health workforce data through the National Health Workforce Accounts and joint data collections with WHO/Europe, OECD, and Eurostat.
- Share best practices and develop actionable improvement plans to strengthen Human Resources for Health Information Systems (HRHIS) across the WHO European Region.
- Foster dialogue and collaboration among health workforce focal points to support the
implementation of the Framework and enhance regional health workforce development.
Participants will share perspectives about the current status of the national health workforce data and human resources information systems, the workshop serving as an action-oriented platform for dialogue between stakeholders. The meeting will take place in a virtual format. It will be held in English with interpretation in English and Russian. Preparatory documents will be made available in advance of the workshop.
