EUROPEAN COMMISSION DIRECTORATE-GENERAL FOR JUSTICE AND CONSUMERS
The Director-General
Brussels JUST.D.3/
Dear Ambassador,
I wish to reiterate my congratulations on the occasion of the adoption of the Directive on
combating violence against women and domestic violence on 7 May 2024. This represents
a historic milestone, as the EU now has its first strong and comprehensive law to fight
gender-based violence against women and girls.
Following the adoption of the Directive, I would like to inform you about our plans to
accompany you in its implementation. We will launch the implementation work with a first
implementation workshop in May 2025. This first meeting will be followed by further
implementation workshops in Brussels in 2025-2027. These meetings could be
complemented by bilateral meetings with Member States.
I would kindly request that you send us the name and contact details of the official in the
relevant ministry who will be in charge of and coordinate the implementation of the
Directive in your country so that we can invite them directly to our first meeting. Please
also inform us of the name of your alternate representative. Kindly ensure this is done by
5 March 2025. We will of course keep justice counsellors in copy.
Your contact in the European Commission for purposes of the implementation process will
be the Gender Equality Unit of Directorate General Justice and Consumers, which will be
assisting you and monitoring the implementation. You may address any queries and
questions that arise to Maria Mollica ([email protected]) and Lisa Collste
([email protected]). Please also always copy your correspondence to the unit’s
functional mailbox [email protected]. I look forward to continuing working with
you on this important piece of legislation.
Yours sincerely,
Ana GALLEGO
