31 March 2025 Hon. Karmen Joller Minister of Social Affairs Estonia Subject: Invitation to co-host and speak at Health Data Governance side event during the 78th World Health Assembly (20 May at 18:00 - 20:00) Dear Minister,
Transform Health has the honour of inviting the Ministry of Social Affairs to co-host and speak at a side event on health data governance during this year's World Health Assembly. The event will take place on the 20th of May at 18:00-20:00 at Restaurant Vieux Bois in Geneva. More details are available in the event concept note.
The side event builds on growing political will and advances in this space, including the adoption by governments of the Global Digital Compact and discussions around regional and global collaboration. The side event will bring together regional and national leaders to learn from and build on experiences in strengthening health data governance, with the aim of stimulating global action on the issue. It will explore what is needed to prioritise health data governance on the agenda of the World Health Assembly, to enable a discussion amongst Member States around a global framework/commitment on health data governance. It will also explore recent tools and resources, which provide a starting point for discussions around a global framework, such as the Model Law on health data governance. More background on the issue is available in this brief Information Note.
Given your government's leadership in digital health, and the importance of robust data governance as part of this, we would highly value your support on this important issue by:
● Co-hosting and speaking at the World Health Assembly side event on health data governance on the 20th of May, at 18:00-20:00 in Geneva.
● Championing the development of a global health data governance framework to facilitate collaboration amongst Member States, including raising this during this year’s World Health Assembly (May 2025), and calling for health data governance to be on the agenda of the 75th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe (Oct 2025) and next year’s World Health Assembly (May 2026).
We look forward to hearing from you and hope you will join us in hosting and speaking at this important event. Kind regards,
Mathilde Forslund Executive Director, Transform Health
