Problems with NM10 have been going on for a few months now. The first email I could find about the current problems was sent on November 11th. Last year NM10 was unavailable for several days and the maintenance part was unavailable for weeks. According to our contract allowed downtime during the winter (15.10–30.04) can be up to 18 hours and the maximum allowed number of failures can be up to 2 per month. This problem somewhat continues as quite often when me or Cassandra try to access NM10, it is not reachable. The first page just does not load and gives us a white page or says that the webpage took too long to respond.

In addition there is a problem with weather stations and cameras that are displayed as offline or with an error status. Usually most of the devices that are displayed as offline or with an error status are sending weather data. Perhaps the solution to this problem would be to investigate what causes NM10 to display them as offline or with an error status when they are sending weather data correctly. This problem causes NM10 to display a completely wrong status of our network. This means that NM10 is useless and we cannot use it to evaluate our network.

The third problem is that two users can not access NM10 at the same time. We demonstrated that problem during our last meeting as well.

Taking the previous into account we inform you that we expect to see all functionalities of NM10 to work correctly by February 5th. If some of the current problems still continue after February 5th Transpordiamet will start counting a penalty fee of 100 € for every day that the problems continue based on point no. 7.4 in the contract.

1. 1. Replaced upgraded stations:

1. a. Old decommissioned weather stations can be deleted, we do not need the data and they can be substituted with the RWS200

2. b. Connection data for new stations will be provided in a separate file which I am currently in the process of obtaining.

                                                               i.      Previous table was sent with addresses in our VPN. We believe that to solve this issue in a reasonable timeframe, current connections can still be established using public access information. However, in the near futuure in cooperation with KiirWarren I believe Vaisalas VPN access shoud be reviewed.

2. 2. Other RWS access issues. @Mutlu Erman EXT please let us know if you were able to Connect using public IP. That enables us to plan further steps with the few diferent weather stations.

3. 3. Road cameras to be removed because they no longer exist: Jyri TK, Ussisoo TK, Aruvalla TK,

4. 4. In regards to the fine set on 05.02 we believe that in light of recent information we can conclude it from 08.03 when the issues with road cameras were concluded.

Hello!

The problem seems to be with the dynDNS.

When I ping m6isakula.tij.ee I get IP 213.100.240.191 as a response.

When I ping him from different parts of the world, sometimes the IP resolves, sometimes it doesn't.

https://shodan.io for example, does not know anything about "m6isakula.tij.ee", but it does know IP 213.100.240.191

Maybe KiirWarren can fix these dynDNSs in the routers. Then the names could be resolved nicely in the future.

We are mainly interrested in ip, port, RWS type but all metadata is welcome. In terms of naming I believe the previous system should be followed: RWS without suffix only name. Cameras with location and suffix TK (Ex. Aegviidu and Aegviidu TK)

You can remove: Jüri TK, Ussisoo TK, Aruvalla TK. Liivi laht is a working camera that can’t be removed.

In terms of Pootsi, what credentials are you missing?

Paunküla is an exception and will remain a ROSA and will not be updated either.

Aegviidu and Kemba as you are removing to avoid duplicate names, will you also be readding them?

• * Udriku and Aruvalla are OK now. No need for port operation.

• * Kernu and unnecessary Kanama stations I can try to remove myself as instructed in our pervious meeting. If I understand correctly that was done via admin module -> Sites -> road weather stations and from there I can permanently delete the unnecessary stations?

• * If a station history is not needed please use „Data Removal“ page and delete.

• * If a station is being deleted because of name duplication, please use „Data Removal“ page and delete all stations with same name (removing only one and leaving the other is not enough usually)

Yes, it is true that we have upgraded most of our stations to RWS200 last year. This was the reason we sent the new table with additional info in december. It was our understanding that all necessary changes will be introduced to NM10 by Vaisala? Väo3, Luhamaa and Kanama are DSC stations but we aim to Upgrade them in the near future to be able to communicate via XML.

I checked your list and they are all ROSA/DSC stations.  I found 2 stations to fix, but others requiring possibly opening port 2320 on your side (I added sample log for 2 stations but all stations’ port should be opened). Can you please check?

Additional common finding is that while NM10 is configured as ROSA/DSC, Excel has RWS for the stations.

Please note that I converted only given stations with IP to DN.

Aegviidu / Kernu:

• * Kernu old one is ROSA, but working one is RWS.

• * You need to clean up this station for both RWS and Camera. Duplicate name is causing some side effects. For example, you cannot select parameters and generate report for it:

Thank you, currently we can see that the situation on the map has already improved in regards to road cameras.

We would like to tackle the issue with weather stations as well to reslove it as quickly as possible in order to conclude the fine calculations.

Currently there are a few more stations offline that we need, I will remove unnecessary stations myself. Here is the list of RWS that we know are online and need to be resolved. Currently the are displayed as offline:

We noted that all of the stations were added and seemed to experience errors on 25.02.2023.

I have added a table with information on RWS needed to access them. I haope this helps conclude this issue as well.

This is the current information from our service provider: You are trying to access via Telnet, however Ainja port 1920 is directed twords port 80 and as such, you can only access it via http. Camera behind port 80 is unaware of telnet and that is the probable reason for your failed access.

Can you please ask your IT people to open port 1920 for one of those sites like Ainja 2 and test? I got these names from Tomi as contact person on your side: Andres Nurme and Hannu Ploompuu. Maybe, you can talk to them.

I see that changing our configuration from 1920 to 2320 changed the error, but it didn’t work since Camera is not serving the image from 2320 port:

Some of the cameras listed have no connection to our servers. This needs to be investigated on network level. We will be checking on our side, but I suggest the same for network configuration of those cameras. i.e., whitelist IPs.

Some cameras might have a wrong IP though. They should have domain name or values like 212.X.X.X or 213.X.X.X (these are what I see when we ping your URLs on other cameras), shouldn’t they? These are:

As for NM10 Desktop, we are able to forbid guest/anonymous user altogether if you want. Otherwise, can you please give list of operations/view that you do not want a guest user to see/perform? We can discuss internally and feedback to you later.

I’ve looked into the issue on our side a bit further and have discovered some patterns that might perhaps help  to solve this issue.

We have a list of weather stations that are displayed as offline, no stations are shoen as in error. They are: Jagala, Johvi, Vaela, Kanama, Rohukula, Marjamaa, Paunkyla, Kemba, Mao, Napsi, Moisakyla, Peetrimoisa, Luhamaa, Tatra, Melliste.

Of those we think that due to roadwork Mao might have a change in access information that we need to specify and give you further info. Kernu may have an issue with the old station of the same name still remaining in NM10, that we can also fix ourselves. However all the rest are working fine, as we are recieving data as expected from them.

With cameras we noticed that there were only two shown offline (Ussisoo TK and Jyri TK), but a decent amount displayed as being in error.

Of those in error we noticed that 7 were assigned to our Lufft stations. The stations themselves worked fine, however cameras in those sites were showing as being in error: Ainja 2, Kurla, Lokuti, Partsi , Rõngu, Viira, Üdruma. I am not familiaar with the historic side of the project, but could it be that with these stations a diferent port was used for access and data retrieval etc.?

With rest of the road cameras shown offline we noticed no possibilities of matching names etc to explain this anomaly.

What are your suggestions in moving forward with this issue?

We also discovered something unusual and we are not certain if its a feature or a bug. When opening the link https://hel-nm10-est.vaisala.com/nm10/desktop in a new browser we can access quite a lot of content without logging in. Is this expected behavior or can this be limited somehow?

Ainja 2 Camera deletion is completed. As an extra step I had to delete from Site list here as well:

Now, I have added it back. Please you set user/password. Important note:

• * I used IP address as in excel instead of domain name previously entered. If it fails, we may try to use domain name again.

How to update user and password:

• * Enter admin panel:

• * Edit Ainja 2 TK settings:

• * Set user and password, then save (Change address only if station does not get green in 30 minutes after setting credentials)

About giving direct access to your cameras or camera system can help for troubleshooting. But, I think we will at least ensure that there is connectivity between NM10 server and camera. As we discussed, it might be next step for fixing some of camera station.

I’ve added to this email a table of camera data that I hope can perhaps answer some confusion about connectivity and links. After some talks with Theodor we thought perhaps we could also look at giving you access to the stations and cameras via VPN? I understand that currently you access them via public addresses? I have also consulted to your helpdesk on this topic at the end of last year, however I recieved no answer sadly if this could be possible on your end. If you believe this could be beneficial I believe we should setu p a meeting with KiirWarren as well to discuss further steps.

In regards to today’s experiment on adding Ainja read camera again, were you able to add the camera back into the system and did it help with the connection?

• * There are some weather stations and cameras with identical names, and those would need to be deleted and added back to the system in order to have both functioning properly

• * It should be noted, that deletion will delete all of the site data, including observation history data

• * One example site is Ainja2. The camera site deletion process was started in the meeting, and will be completed offline.

• * Some (cameras especially) seem to be offline, even though they have unique names

• * One example is MaoTK. Network Manager UI indicates that there is a connection problem and logs indicate 404 error, which could mean the URL has changed

• * It was agreed to first fix the sites with the duplicate names and then list the remaining camera sites and check the connectivity with those (with Vaisala IT/Helpdesk)

Action points:

• * @Mutlu Erman EXT to provide step by step instructions on how to delete and re-add sites, so that @Cassandra Krass and rest of the team can delete and re-enter sites with duplicate names
