Concerning the current legal status on the nornicotine (5746-86-1) when used for Vaping / E-Cigarettes.
The Tobacco Act sets out requirements for product composition.
§ 81. Requirements for ingredients of electronic cigarettes
(1) The nicotine-containing liquid shall not contain nicotine in excess of 20 mg/ml.
(2) The nicotine-containing and nicotine-free liquid shall not contain the following substances: 1) vitamins or other additives that create the impression that a product has a health benefit or presents reduced health risks;
2) caffeine, taurine or other additives and stimulant compounds that are associated with energy and vitality;
3) additives having colouring properties for emissions;
4) substances that pose a risk to human health in heated or unheated form, except for nicotine;
Nornicotine (5746-86-1) is a precursor to the carcinogen N-nitrosonornicotine and can react in human saliva to form N-nitrosonornicotine a known type 1 carcinogen. Considering this information, this is a chemical that is dangerous to human health and substances that pose a risk to human health in heated or unheated form, except for nicotine, are banned in electronic cigarettes.
