Teema: Request for information - coast guard - diversion of TMO KIWALA
Dear Madam, Sir,
I am contacting you in the context of European cooperation between coast
guard functions and in your capacity as operational authority leading the
Estonian coast guard.
On April 11th, Estonian authorities reported in the media the
interception and diversion of the TMO Kiwala, a tanker suspected of
belonging to the Russian ghost fleet.
Given the route taken by these vessels, the Maritime Prefecture for the
Atlantic may detect such a vessel in French waters and is interested in
the legal basis Estonian authorities used for the diversion conducted. As
France is committed to information sharing with Estonia within the
framework of the North Atlantic Coast Guard Forum, we believe that
exchanging information on this matter between our services could help
mitigate the issue of the Russian ghost fleet in the Atlantic.
We are aware that the French Embassy in Estonia is already gathering
information that corroborates public informations, but we would
appreciate any additional details you could provide.
Thank you in advance for your response,
Commander Jean-Baptiste Gongora
