PARIS Notification No. 228 PARIS CONVENTION FOR THE PROTECTION OF INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY Accession by the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to notify the deposit by the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, on May 15, 2025, of its instrument of accession to the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property of March 20, 1883, as revised at Stockholm on July 14, 1967, and as amended on September 28, 1979 (Paris Convention). The Paris Convention will enter into force, with respect to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, on August 15, 2025. On that date, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia will become a member of the International Union for the Protection of Industrial Property (Paris Union), founded by the Paris Convention. The list of the States party to the Paris Convention (status on May 15, 2025) is attached to this Notification.

1 "Stockholm" means the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property as revised at Stockholm on July 14, 1967 (Stockholm Act); "Lisbon" means the Paris Convention as revised at Lisbon on October 31, 1958 (Lisbon Act); "London" means the Paris Convention as revised at London on June 2, 1934 (London Act); "The Hague" means the Paris Convention as revised at The Hague on November 6, 1925 (Hague Act). 2 With the declaration provided for in Article 28(2) of the Stockholm Act relating to the International Court of Justice. 3 These are the alternative dates of entry into force which the Director General of WIPO communicated to the States concerned. 4 The Stockholm Act applies also to Hong Kong, China with effect from July 1, 1997, and to Macao, China with effect from December 20, 1999. 5 Denmark extended the application of the Stockholm Act to the Faroe Islands with effect from August 6, 1971. 6 Estonia acceded to the Paris Convention (Washington Act, 1911) with effect from February 12, 1924. It lost its independence on August 6, 1940, and regained it on August 20, 1991. 7 Including all Overseas Departments and Territories. 8 Latvia acceded to the Paris Convention (Washington Act, 1911) with effect from August 20, 1925. It lost its independence on July 21, 1940, and regained it on August 21, 1991. 9 Ratification for the Kingdom in Europe, the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. The Netherlands Antilles ceased to exist on October 10, 2010. As from that date, the Stockholm Act continues to apply to Curaçao and Sint Maarten. The Stockholm Act also continues to apply to the islands of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba which, with effect from October 10, 2010, have become part of the territory of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Europe.

10 The accession of New Zealand to the Stockholm Act, with the exception of Articles 1 to 12, extended to the Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau. New Zealand deposited on December 17, 2018, a declaration extending the effects of its accession to Article 1 to 12, in respect of the territory of New Zealand. 11 Date of adherence of the Soviet Union, continued by the Russian Federation as from December 25, 1991. 12 Serbia is the continuing State from Serbia and Montenegro as from June 3, 2006. 13 The United Kingdom extended the application of the Stockholm Act to the Isle of Man with effect from October 29, 1983. 14 The United Kingdom extended the application of the Convention to the territories of the Bailiwick of Guernsey and the Bailiwick of Jersey with effect from November 13, 2020. 15 The United Kingdom extended the application of the Convention to the territory of Gibraltar with effect from January 1, 2021. 16 The United States of America extended the application of the Stockholm Act to all territories and possessions of the United States of America, including the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, as from August 25, 1973.

CONVENTION DE PARIS POUR LA PROTECTION DE LA PROPRIÉTÉ INDUSTRIELLE

Adhésion de la République fédérale démocratique d’Éthiopie

Le Directeur général de l’Organisation Mondiale de la Propriété Intellectuelle (OMPI) présente ses compliments au Ministre des Affaires étrangères et a l’honneur de notifier le dépôt par le Gouvernement de la République fédérale démocratique d’Éthiopie, le 15 mai 2025, de son instrument d’adhésion à la Convention de Paris pour la protection de la propriété industrielle du 20 mars 1883, telle que révisée à Stockholm le 14 juillet 1967 et modifiée le 28 septembre 1979 (Convention de Paris).

La Convention de Paris entrera en vigueur, à l’égard de la République fédérale démocratique d’Éthiopie, le 15 août 2025. Dès cette date, la République fédérale démocratique d’Éthiopie deviendra membre de l’Union internationale pour la protection de la propriété industrielle (Union de Paris), fondée par la Convention de Paris.

La liste des États parties à la Convention de Paris (situation le15 mai 2025) est jointe à la présente notification.

1 “Stockholm” signifie la Convention de Paris pour la protection de la propriété industrielle révisée à Stockholm le 14 juillet 1967 (Acte de Stockholm); “Lisbonne” signifie la Convention de Paris révisée à Lisbonne le 31 octobre 1958 (Acte de Lisbonne); “Londres” signifie la Convention de Paris révisée à Londres le 2 juin 1934 (Acte de Londres); “La Haye” signifie la Convention de Paris révisée à La Haye le 6 novembre 1925 (Acte de La Haye). 2 Avec la déclaration prévue à l’article 28.2) de l’Acte de Stockholm relatif à la Cour internationale de Justice. 3 L’une et l’autre de ces dates d’entrée en vigueur sont celles qui ont été communiquées par le directeur général de l’OMPI aux États intéressés. 4 L’Acte de Stockholm s’applique aussi à Hong Kong (Chine) à compter du 1er juillet 1997 et à Macao (Chine) à compter du 20 décembre 1999. 5 Le Danemark a étendu l’application de l’Acte de Stockholm aux îles Féroé avec effet au 6 août 1971. 6 L’Estonie a adhéré à la Convention de Paris (Acte de Washington de 1911) avec effet au 12 février 1924. Elle a perdu son indépendance le 6 août 1940 et l’a retrouvée le 20 août 1991. 7 Les États-Unis d’Amérique ont étendu l’application de l’Acte de Stockholm à tous les territoires et possessions des États-Unis d’Amérique, y compris le Commonwealth de Porto Rico, avec effet au 25 août 1973. 8 Date d’adhésion de l’Union soviétique, continuée par la Fédération de Russie à compter du 25 décembre 1991. 9 Y compris les départements et territoires d’outre-mer. 10 La Lettonie a adhéré à la Convention de Paris (Acte de Washington de 1911) avec effet au 20 août 1925. Elle a perdu son indépendance le 21 juillet 1940 et l’a retrouvée le 21 août 1991. 11 L’adhésion de la Nouvelle-Zélande à l’Acte de Stockholm, à l’exception des articles 1 à 12, s’étend aux îles Cook, Nioué et Tokélaou. La Nouvelle-Zélande a déposé, le 17 décembre 2018, une déclaration qui étend les effets de son adhésion aux articles 1 à 12, à l’égard du territoire de la Nouvelle-Zélande.

À partir de cette date, l’Acte de Stockholm continue de s’appliquer à Curaçao et Saint-Martin. L’Acte de Stockholm continue de s’appliquer également aux îles Bonaire, Saint-Eustache et Saba qui, avec effet au 10 octobre 2010, font partie intégrante du territoire du Royaume des Pays-Bas en Europe.

13 Le Royaume-Uni a étendu l’application de l’Acte de Stockholm à l’Île de Man avec effet au 29 octobre 1983. 14 Le Royaume-Uni a étendu l’application de la Convention aux territoires du Bailliage de Guernesey et du Bailliage de Jersey avec effet au 13 novembre 2020. 15 Le Royaume-Uni a étendu l’application de la Convention au territoire de Gibraltar avec effet au 1er janvier 2021. 16 La Serbie est l’État assurant la continuation de la Serbie-et-Monténégro à compter du 3 juin 2006.
