Ivan Sergejev Deputy Secretary General for Spatial Planning, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications Estonia
Dear Deputy Secretary General Sergejev,
Thank you very much for sending us the VASAB Ministerial Tallinn Declaration on Spatial Resilience.
Sweden welcomes the Tallinn-declaration as important for securing continued cooperation and a steppingstone bringing spatial and territorial aspects of resilience and preparedness into the focus of VASAB's activities, by endorsing the Tallinn Declaration.
The challenges in the Baltic Sea Region are complex and multifaceted, not least from a geopolitical perspective. Spatial and territorial resilience, the ability of territories and communities to develop spatial preparedness and adapt their functional and structural integrity, as well as continuous sustainable development is of outmost significance for all EU Baltic Sea Region countries.
VASAB was founded on Swedish initiative in 1992 to promote knowledge transfer and exchange of experience regarding methods for terrestrial and maritime planning as well as regional development issues. We are proud to see VASAB still being an important forum on spatial collaboration in the Baltic Sea Region turning challenges into opportunities through spatial planning and territorial development, not least by holding a coordinating role within the framework of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region.
