How to implement health and wellbeing policies on climate change Event co-organized with the WHO-RHN and the CoR
15 to 17 September 2025 in Brussels
We are delighted to invite you to our three-day event on how to take action against the impact of climate change on our health and wellbeing, as well as on the impact of our health and care systems on our climate. We would like to discuss good practices in depth, and learn from each other. We will organise 10 different workshops. You will have a chance to take part in 6 of the workshops (see programme in attachment). At the end of these three days participants should have a better knowledge of actions and projects in other regions. Moreover, participants should have knowledge and be inspired on ‘how’ to draft practical and usable policies. On the first day we organise a two plenary sessions. We will start with insights from WHO, Committee of the Regions and other high level stakeholders. After a coffee break we will dive into the policies and initiatives from the Department of Care, Government of Flanders. This will set the scene for the following days on which we will organise ten different workshops:
- Workshop 1: Health governance on climate change
- Workshop 2: Heat health action plans - from theory to practice
- Workshop 3: How to tackle challenges related to the emerging tiger mosquitoes and related arboviruses?
- Workshop 4: Preventing overflowing of healthcare capabilities by preparing for floods
- Workshop 5: Return on investment of healthy and resilient health infrastructure?
- Workshop 6: Sustainability criteria for healthcare building design
- Workshop 7: Sufficient indoor AirQuality in hospitals and low energy consumption
- Workshop 8: Implementing an adaptive ventilation (IAQ) strategy in care homes
- Workshop 9: Empowering the care sector for sustainable care
- Workshop 10: Climate action as a window for opportunities: health in all policies (HIAP), wellbeing in all policies (WIAP) and climate health co-benefits
You may find the more detailed programme with this invitation.
We offer coffee, tea and water during the whole event. You are kindly invited to a networking dinner on 15 September (additional registration). We will provide lunch on 16 and 17 September. The Belpaire building is designed and built taking into account the integral accessibility of the building. We will provide a space where you can safely store your luggage on the first and on the last day. Please note that we will not offer translation. This event will only be in English. The plenary session will also be streamed. You can indicate your preference when registering.
You can register for this event with this link: https://forms.office.com/e/x8ZsjLQwW4.
We have chosen to host a small event on site in order to give everybody a chance to fully participate in the discussions. We have a maximum of 80 participants and focus mainly on policy officers involved in this policy area. If you have a more academic background, you are welcome, but we will give priority to policy officers. We will confirm your registration by 5 August.
