Media access to Tartu prison Invitation for July 30th

We are pleased to invite you to a media day at Tartu prison, taking place on july 30, 2025.

The one-day program offers a unique opportunity to gain an in-depth view of Estonian prison system, key operational areas, and Estonia’s approach to both security and rehabilitation. The day will begin with a guided tour through selected areas of the prison. Participants will also have the chance to have lunch in the prison canteen, offering a first-hand look at daily routines. We will conclude the visit with a sit-down session with the Head of the Prison and Probation Service and representatives involved in the leasing process – here you will have a chance to ask questions and conduct interviews.

To ensure the day meets your interests as fully as possible, we would appreciate it if you could share in advance any specific topics or angles you are interested in covering. This will help us tailor the visit to your editorial needs.

To confirm your participation, please send us the full names, personal identification codes, and copies of identification documents of all participants by july 18 at the latest, for security clearance purposes. A detailed agenda and information required for access requests will be shared closer to the date.

Given the level of interest and our limited capacity, the media day will serve as the sole opportunity for press access to the Tartu prison this summer.
