letters to Member States / EE
Dear Executive Vice-President Virkkunen,
Dear Commissioner McGrath,
We appreciate your continued engagement and support in preparing for the implementation of the
European Media Freedom Act (EMFA).
Overall, preparations for implementing the EMFA in Estonia have progressed well. We have
introduced the necessary clarifications to the Estonian Media Services Act to ensure alignment
with the regulation’s requirements. One of the more complex issues has been finding a sustainable
funding model for public service media. After considering several options, we believe we have
now identified a viable solution, which will require amendments to the Estonian Broadcasting Act.
Our plan is to proceed with the legislative process for these amendments in the Estonian Parliament
during the autumn session.
We will keep you informed of further developments and remain committed to ensuring EMFA’s
full application.
Yours sincerely,
