Subject: Nomination of National Coordinators for the VTS Questionnaire To: Member States and Associate Members
Dear Members,
IALA is undertaking work to further develop the global VTS questionnaire, which serves as an essential tool to collect and maintain up-to-date information on the organization, implementation, and provision of VTS worldwide. This initiative supports IALA’s role in promoting harmonization of VTS operations and contributing to international reporting obligations and standardization efforts. In accordance with discussions held at the VTS Committee, the Secretariat is currently updating the IALA questionnaire system. To ensure the accuracy and completeness of the information, IALA invites each Member State and Associate Member to nominate a National Coordinator for the VTS questionnaire. The National Coordinator will act as the primary point of contact with the IALA Secretariat on this matter and will be responsible for coordinating the collection of relevant information within their country.
Specifically, the following information will be required:
• Competent Authority for VTS: the entity designated by the Government as responsible for VTS, as defined in IMO Resolution A.1158(32).
• VTS Providers: organizations or entities authorized by the Government or competent authority to provide VTS.
• VTS Areas: delineated and formally declared areas for which VTS is authorized.
The Secretariat will issue further instructions and access details for the questionnaire once National Coordinators have been nominated. Accordingly, Members are kindly requested to inform the IALA Secretariat of the nomination of their National Coordinator for the VTS questionnaire by 23 October 2025. Please send the name, position, and contact details
of the nominated coordinator to: [email protected]. If you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact the Secretariat.
