Request for submission of national data on bathing water quality for the bathing season 2025 pursuant to Article 13 of Bathing Water Directive 2006/7/EC
To: Nominated reporters for the Bathing Water Directive
Cc: Members of the Bathing Water Directive Expert Group EIONET National Focal Points WISE national reporting coordinators National dataflow coordinators
Dear Colleague,
We would hereby like to invite you to submit your national data in relation to the ‘Monitoring and Classification of Bathing Water’ for the bathing season 2025, in accordance with Article 13 of the Bathing Water Directive 2006/7/EC. Data delivery: Monitoring and Classification of Bathing Waters (ROD 787) The reporting obligation ‘Monitoring and Classification of Bathing Waters‘ includes monitoring results, bathing water quality classification, bathing season period and other management periods (such as short-term pollution, abnormal situation, and inaccessibility).
National submissions on ‘Monitoring and Classification of Bathing Water’ for the bathing season 2025 should be uploaded exclusively through the Reportnet 3 platform by 31 December 2025.
Three reporting tables must be submitted, as included in the Excel template available for download in
the ‘Documents’ section of the Reportnet 3 data flow webpage. Changes can be made to the reported
data, as long as the envelope is not released and thus officially submitted. Only after release, the data
set can be imported to the EEA database and processed there. Data re-submissions are possible until
31 December 2025. After this date, re-submissions can be allowed in agreement with the BWD
Helpdesk.
The following supporting documents are available for download in the ‘Documents’ section of the Reportnet 3 data flow webpage:
• BWD Reporting Guidance – composition of the dataset, description of tables and fields;
• How to use Reportnet 3 for Bathing Water reporting – tutorial for BWD data upload;
• Guidelines for the assessment under the BWD – description of the EEA assessment protocol. The protocol has not changed since the 2021 bathing season;
• BWD 787 Data Dictionary - BWD technical specification (exported from the DD 2022-12-05).
Reference data: ‘Identification of Bathing Waters’ (ROD 788) The reporting on ‘Monitoring and Classification of Bathing Waters’ uses your national data on the ‘Identification of Bathing Waters’1 as reported by your country before the start of the 2025 bathing season. This means that data can be reported only for identified bathing waters, reported for your country.
Data quality check and correction of data Once the data file is uploaded, the system will run automatic quality control. The detected data issues (blockers, errors and warnings) will be automatically shown. Please be informed that, to enhance data consistency, four additional quality checks, all of them regarding the MonitoringResult table, have been added as of this reporting exercise: 1. R001 – returning a ‘blocker’ when the observed values for both intestinal enterococci and
Escherichia coli are missing and the sample status is not 'missingSample', 'replacementSample', 'confirmationSample' or 'preSeasonSample'.
2. R002 - returning a ‘blocker’ when only one of the observed values for intestinal enterococci and Escherichia coli is missing and the sample status is 'missingSample'.
3. R003 – returning a ‘warning’, with a request to clarify the situation in the remarks (if this field is empty), if the observed values for intestinal enterococci and Escherichia coli are both missing and sample status is 'replacementSample', 'confirmationSample' or 'preSeasonSample'.
4. R004 – returning an ‘info’ if only one of the observed values for intestinal enterococci and Escherichia coli is missing.
We kindly request that you check the results of the automatic quality control and correct any issues. The corrected data must be re-uploaded and can be released after all potential blocker-level issues are addressed.
