To whom it may concern
The State Forest Management Centre welcomes the Centre of Excellence of Sustainable Land
Use (FutureScapes) and fully supports it in our role as an associated partner of the Centre of
Excellence.
This innovative project proposal is timely and relevant for our organisation because it addresses
critical topics related to management of future forests advancing mitigation loss of biodiversity
and maximizing carbon sequestration.
This letter is to confirm that State Forest Management Centre offers the following support from
the start of the programme in 2024.
• We will allow conducting scientific experiments on forest land owned by State Forest
Management Centre (RMK), the details of each experiment will be agreed separately
considering RMK’s interests in development of innovative, changing environment context-tailored forest management techniques sustaining biodiversity and carbon stocks
in managed forest soils.
• We will join and be an active member of the Strategic Advisory Board to critically
review the project activities and provide feedback to the consortium universities about
the progress and its relevance to our organisation and Estonia. This will improve the
quality and relevance of the project.
• We will host and co-supervise PhD students during their research thesis phase for topics
clearly related to our own mandate. This will enhance the knowledge transfer and
strengthen their links to the labour market, provide them with experience of a
professional working environment and enhance their career prospects.
• We will promote our role in the project at relevant events and on social media. Our logo
and details may be included in promotional material developed by the university partners.
This will support the project by contributing to its sustainability strategy beyond the
seven-year funding period.
