Dear Sir / Dear Madam,

The Commission’s Directorate General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) has now

established the expert group on carbon removals. The group’s work will be instrumental in

assisting DG CLIMA in the effective preparation and future implementation of the EU policy

initiatives in the area of carbon removals, realising synergies with other policy developments

in the land use, forestry and agriculture sector and in the relevant industrial sectors.

I am very pleased that you have accepted to become a member of the expert group and would

like to invite you to participate in the first meeting of the expert group, which will take place

on

7 March 2023 from 9:00 – 17:00

Please find enclosed the preliminary agenda, including a short outline of the three panels on

industrial carbon removals, carbon farming and the verification/certification requirements.

My colleagues might be in touch with you shortly about your potential involvement in the

respective panels including the specific questions we would like to address in this first

meeting.

I would be grateful if you could confirm your attendance (indicating whether you intend to

participate in person or online) via the electronic AGM system by 17 February 2023.

I also attach for your information the draft Rules of Procedure for the Expert Group on

Carbon Removals. These rules will be briefly presented and approved at the beginning of the

first meeting. If you have any particular concerns, please send them in writing using the

functional mailbox specified at the end of this invite.

In the interest of transparency and given the very high interest expressed in the work of this

expert group, DG CLIMA commits to conducting these meetings as inclusively and openly

as possible. In this spirit, a part of this meeting will be web-streamed and recorded. Your

personal data will be treated by the Commission in accordance with Regulation (EU)

2018/17251 and Commission Decision C(2016) 33012.

We will shortly be sending out a final detailed agenda, including links for remote

participation and web-streaming. However, to maximise the networking opportunities, we

strongly encourage participants to attend in person the meeting. We would also like to offer

those who will be present in Brussels the opportunity for informal networking/drinks straight

after the event at the nearby Grand Central.

Keskuse põhimääruse § 18 lõigete 5 ja 6 ning RMK juhatuse assistent Iris Mäeker’i 17. veebruar 2023. a ja kliimamuutuste spetsialist Hardo Becker’i 15. veebruar 2023. a taotluste

alusel

1. l ä h e t a n RMK kommunikatsiooniosakonna juhataja Triin Küttim’i ja kliimamuutuste

osakonna kliimamuutuste spetsialist Hardo Becker’i 6.-8. märtsini 2023. a (3

kalendripäeva) Belgia Kuningriiki, Brüsselisse osalema EUSTAFORi seminaril. Lisaks

osaleb Hardo Becker Euroopa Komisjoni ekspertgrupi (Expert Group on Carbon

Removals) töökoosolekul.

2. Maksta nimetatud töötajatele lähetuse päevaraha 50 eurot ning hüvitada lähetusega seotud

kulud vastavalt kuludokumentidele personaliosakonna lähetuseks ettenähtud vahendite

arvelt.
