Letter of Support
Fibenol OÜ application for the Innovation Fund Large Scale Projects The State Forest Management Centre (hereinafter RMK) is pleased to provide this letter of support to Fibenol. Estonia is one of the most forest-rich countries in Europe – about half of our land is covered with forest. Roughly 45% of the Estonian forests are maintained, grown and managed by the RMK. The biggest challenge of today's forest management is that there is no reasonable local use for the Estonian pulpwood. Currently nearly 2 million m3 of pulpwood is exported. Thus, the biorefinery planned by Fibenol would bring great socio-economic benefits enabling valorization of the Estonian pulpwood locally instead of low-value export. The biorefinery would create significant added value as compared to exporting of pulpwood. Also, it would ensure a long-term and stable demand for pulpwood and enable RMK to achieve the aims set forth in its Timber Marketing Strategy. The biorefinery would also contribute to the achievement of renewable energy targets. More than a half of RMK´s pulpwood volume is exported due to a limited local consumption. RMK supports the use of long-term supply contracts to ensure a long-term market for pulpwood locally. RMK has been awarded the sustainable forest management certificates FSC (SCS- FM/COC-008521) and PEFC (TT-PEFC-FM020), also ISO 14001 environmental management certificate and ISO 9001 quality management system certificate. We are looking forward to the opportunity of working together with Fibenol to co-create more sustainable value chains and give Estonian pulpwood higher added value. With best regards, Mikk Marran Chairman of the Management Board
