Dear Liana, Thank you for your inquiry. In Iceland, there is no formal platform where we restrospectively analyze child protection cases with serious outcomes, with the aim of identifying cross-sectoral bottlenecks. However, in 2024, the Ministry of Education and Children started a working group regarding this, but I don‘t have information about the status of that work. Dear Representative of the Quality and Supervision Agency for Welfare! I am writing to you from the Estonian Social Insurance Board. I work in the Supervision Unit and lead a project with the main goal of retrospectively analyzing child protection cases with serious outcomes, identifying cross-sectoral bottlenecks, and learning from these cases to prevent serious outcomes in the future and reduce their frequency. The future commission would analyze the actions and cooperation of all parties involved in resolving a case and provide recommendations for preventing serious outcomes. In 2025, we formed a working group with the aim of developing a cross-sectoral analysis model and methodology for child protection cases with serious outcomes. During the working group meetings, we also familiarize ourselves with various methodologies from Estonia and abroad. At the last meeting in December, the working group expressed a desire to learn about the methodology used in Iceland. Unfortunately, I have so far been unable to find definitive information confirming the existence of an institution, organization, or commission in Iceland that deals with cross-sectoral analysis of child protection cases with serious outcomes. I have found that there is a Quality and Supervision Agency for Welfare, the National Agency for Children and Families, and Barnahús in Iceland, but it seems that these institutions do not precisely address what I am looking for. I am reaching out to you to kindly ask if there exists any institution, organization, or commission in Iceland that engages in retrospective cross-sectoral analysis of child protection cases with serious outcomes. If such an entity exists, I would be very grateful if you could share any information or contacts with me so that I can get in touch with them directly. Please respond at your earliest convenience, but no later than January 16th, as our next working group meeting is approaching soon, and I need time to contact this institution and prepare for the meeting on January 28, 2025, to present the Icelandic methodology. Kæri fulltrúi Gæða- og eftirlitsstofnun velferðarmála! Ég er að skrifa þér frá Tryggingastofnun Eistlands. Ég vinn í eftirlitseiningunni og stýri verkefni sem hefur það að meginmarkmiði að skoða ítarlega barnaverndarmál með alvarlegum afleiðingum, bera kennsl á hindranir milli geira og læra af þeim til að koma í veg fyrir alvarlegar afleiðingar í framtíðinni og fækka þeim. Framtíðarnefnd myndi greina starfsemi og samstarf allra aðila sem taka þátt í lausn mála og veita ráðleggingar um að koma í veg fyrir alvarlegar afleiðingar. Árið 2025 mynduðum við vinnuhóp með það að markmiði að þróa þverfaglegt greiningarlíkan og aðferðafræði fyrir alvarleg barnaverndarmál. Á fundum vinnuhópsins kynnumst við meðal annars mismunandi aðferðum frá Eistlandi og erlendis. Á síðasta fundi í desember lýsti vinnuhópurinn yfir áhuga á að kynnast aðferðafræði Íslands, en því miður hef ég ekki enn getað fundið ákveðnar upplýsingar sem staðfesta að til sé stofnun, samtök eða nefnd á Íslandi sem fjallar um greiningu barnaverndarmála með alvarlegum afleiðingum milli geira. Ég hef fundið að á Íslandi er Gæða- og eftirlitsstofnun velferðarmála, Barna- og fjölskyldustofa, og Barnahús, en það lítur út fyrir að þessar stofnanir fjalli ekki nákvæmlega um það sem ég er að leita að.

Ég er að leita til þín þar sem ég vildi gjarnan fá upplýsingar um hvort til sé stofnun, samtök eða nefnd á Íslandi sem fæst við greiningu barnaverndarmála með alvarlegum afleiðingum þvert á svið. Ef eitthvað slíkt er til staðar, væri ég mjög þakklát/ur ef þú gætir deilt með mér upplýsingum eða tengiliðum til að hafa beint samband við þá. Vinsamlegast svarið eins fljótt og auðið er, en ekki síðar en 16. janúar, þar sem næsti vinnuhópur okkar er bráðlega og ég þarf tíma til að hafa enn frekara samband við þessa stofnun og undirbúa 28. janúar 2025 fund vinnuhópsins til að kynna íslensku aðferðafræðina.
